JOB DESCRIPTION: Production Foreman

POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Foreman oversees daily shop-floor production while also supporting project management responsibilities and general shop maintenance. This role is responsible for keeping active projects moving through the shop by coordinating labor, materials, schedules, fabrication needs, quality control, and communication between the production floor and project management team.
The Production Foreman must be a strong hands-on fabricator and practical leader who is willing to step into production when needed. This includes fabricating, assembling, modifying, repairing, troubleshooting, or assisting departments during schedule pushes, labor gaps, or complex builds.
In addition to production oversight, this role supports project coordination by reviewing scopes, drawings, estimates, schedules, labor needs, material requirements, punch lists, delivery plans, and change order risks. The Production Foreman also helps maintain a clean, organized, safe, and functional shop environment by monitoring tools, equipment, materials, supplies, staging areas, and general shop upkeep.
The ideal candidate has experience in scenic fabrication, themed entertainment, custom builds, millwork, props, displays, signage, or experiential fabrication and is comfortable working directly with fabricators, artists, project managers, vendors, and leadership.
Responsibilities:
Production Leadership
- Oversee daily shop-floor activity and help keep active projects moving according to schedule.
- Coordinate with the Production Manager, Project Managers, and department leads to set daily and weekly priorities.
- Assign and communicate production tasks based on project deadlines, labor availability, and shop capacity.
- Monitor work in progress and identify schedule risks, labor conflicts, material shortages, or quality concerns.
- Ensure each department understands the scope, drawings, finish expectations, deadlines, and delivery requirements.
- Lead by example through clear communication, professionalism, urgency, accountability, and hands-on support.
- Support a productive shop culture built on craftsmanship, safety, teamwork, respect, and quality.
Hands-On Fabrication
- Fabricate, assemble, modify, repair, or finish project components when needed.
- Step into production work to support deadlines, solve fabrication issues, fill labor gaps, or assist with complex builds.
- Assist across departments when appropriate, including carpentry, scenic fabrication, assembly, plastics, metal, paint prep, installation prep, and general shop support.
- Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and correctly.
- Help troubleshoot build challenges and recommend practical fabrication solutions.
- Ensure hands-on work meets approved drawings, finish standards, durability requirements, and client expectations.
Project Management Responsibilities
- Support the transition of projects from estimating and project management into active production.
- Review scope documents, estimates, drawings, finish references, schedules, and client requirements before fabrication begins.
- Help identify missing information, unclear scope, material needs, labor needs, and potential production conflicts.
- Track project progress and communicate status updates to the Production Manager and Project Managers.
- Assist with internal project schedules, milestones, labor planning, material tracking, and delivery deadlines.
- Monitor actual labor and production progress against estimated hours and project budgets.
- Flag potential change order items, added scope, client revisions, or schedule impacts before work proceeds.
- Help maintain project documentation, including task lists, punch lists, install notes, packing lists, and closeout details.
- Support vendor coordination, material follow-up, purchasing needs, project staging, packing, deliveries, and installation planning.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings, production meetings, and closeout reviews.
Communication & Coordination
- Serve as a key communication link between the production floor and project management team.
- Communicate priorities, scope changes, deadline shifts, and production needs clearly and promptly.
- Ask questions early when information is missing, conflicting, or unclear.
- Provide realistic feedback on schedule, labor, materials, fabrication approach, and shop capacity.
- Help reduce confusion between departments by ensuring the shop has current drawings, approved references, and accurate information.
- Communicate professionally with vendors, subcontractors, clients, and installation teams when required.
Quality Control
- Review work throughout fabrication to confirm accuracy, quality, and completeness.
- Compare finished work against approved drawings, samples, renderings, finish references, and project requirements.
- Create and help manage punch lists before delivery, installation, or client review.
- Identify quality issues early and coordinate corrections with the appropriate team members.
- Ensure completed items are properly labeled, protected, staged, packed, and ready for transport or install.
- Support final shop walk-throughs before project delivery.
Scheduling & Labor Tracking
- Assist with daily and weekly labor planning across active projects.
- Help determine manpower needs based on schedule, scope, and shop capacity.
- Track task completion, hours used, and remaining work.
- Notify the Production Manager when projects are trending over budget, behind schedule, or lacking resources.
- Help coordinate overtime, weekend work, install support, or production pushes when necessary.
- Recommend adjustments to workflow to reduce bottlenecks and improve efficiency.
Shop Maintenance & Organization
- Help maintain a clean, safe, organized, and production-ready shop environment.
- Oversee general shop upkeep, including work areas, tools, equipment, material storage, and project staging areas.
- Ensure tools and equipment are returned to their proper locations after use.
- Monitor shop supplies, consumables, hardware, fasteners, adhesives, PPE, and commonly used materials.
- Notify the Production Manager when tools, equipment, or supplies need repair, replacement, or restocking.
- Help coordinate routine equipment checks, maintenance needs, and basic troubleshooting.
- Identify damaged tools, unsafe equipment, blocked walkways, trip hazards, poor housekeeping conditions, or workflow issues.
- Support organization of incoming materials, deliveries, project components, scrap materials, and completed items.
- Reinforce company standards for shop cleanliness, tool accountability, end-of-day cleanup, and safe material storage.
- Assist with improving shop workflow, storage systems, labeling, staging, and production efficiency.
Safety & Shop Standards
- Promote and enforce safe work practices throughout the shop.
- Ensure team members use proper PPE, tools, equipment, and material handling procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged tools, equipment issues, or procedural concerns.
- Support proper storage, labeling, staging, and protection of materials and project components.
- Reinforce company standards for professionalism, accountability, attendance, conduct, and respect.
Work Schedule
Production Foreman is a full time position. The Production Foreman is expected to work, on average, 40 hrs per week. The Production Foreman will be expected to work overtime when production schedules dictate overtime is required to meet deadlines. Overtime compensation is paid according to federal and state law.
The regular work schedule for all MAD FAB employees is Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30 p.m. There is a 45 minute unpaid break for lunch starting at 12:45 p.m. and ending at 1:30 p.m. CIS’s are allowed two paid 15-minute breaks per workday. Further explanation of the break policy is in the employee handbook.
There are often abnormal work hours because we work in the construction and theme park industries. Compensation (shift differential) for abnormal work hours is further explained in the employee handbook. It is a requirement of this position that the CIS be available for abnormal work hours which can include second and third shift and also working late, early, long shifts or doubles.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and move throughout the shop for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Ability to work around active fabrication equipment and materials.
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and shop equipment as required.
- Ability to assist with packing, loading, deliveries, and installation support when needed.
- Valid driver’s license required. Must be able to safely operate company vehicles as needed, including large trucks, flatbeds, and vehicles towing trailers.
Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
