Position Summary
Cerulean Blue Coffee House is seeking a reliable, organized, and passionate Baker / Assistant Baker to help create exceptional pastries and baked goods that complement our specialty coffee program.
This position is responsible for preparing, baking, finishing, and presenting products according to established recipes and quality standards while maintaining a clean, organized, and food-safe kitchen environment. The Baker works both independently and alongside the Head Baker to ensure the bakery case remains stocked with fresh, high-quality products that enhance the guest experience.
The ideal candidate enjoys early mornings, pays close attention to detail, takes pride in their work, and understands that every pastry contributes to the overall success of the coffee house.
ResponsibilitiesBaking & Production
- Prepare and bake pastries, muffins, scones, cookies, breads, and seasonal menu items according to established recipes.
- Assist in preparing, mixing, shaping, proofing, and portioning doughs, batters, and other ingredients as directed by the Head Baker.
- Follow daily production schedules to ensure products are available, fresh, and ready for service.
- Monitor baking times, temperatures, and product quality to ensure consistency.
- Decorate and finish baked goods with toppings, icings, fillings, and garnishes according to established standards.
- Maintain consistency in flavor, appearance, and quality across all products.
- Assist in developing and testing new seasonal offerings.
- Ensure bakery displays and pastry cases remain fully stocked and visually appealing throughout the day.
- Assist with production and preparation for catering orders and special events.
Kitchen Operations
- Complete daily opening, prep, cleaning, and closing duties for the kitchen.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and food-safe work environment at all times.
- Follow all food handling, sanitation, and health department regulations.
- Properly label, date, rotate, and store ingredients and finished products.
- Monitor ingredient inventory and communicate ordering needs to management.
- Maintain accurate production records and inventory counts.
- Minimize waste through proper preparation, storage, and inventory management.
- Ensure all equipment, tools, and workstations are cleaned, maintained, and organized.
Team & Culture
- Work closely with the Owner, Store Manager, Head Baker, and Coffee House staff to support daily operations.
- Communicate effectively regarding production needs, inventory shortages, and bakery operations.
- Contribute to a positive, encouraging, and team-oriented culture.
- Receive and implement feedback with a teachable attitude.
- Respect and support the leadership and direction of the Head Baker.
- Support Cerulean Blue's mission of hospitality, excellence, community, and service.
Independent Kitchen Management
- Manage daily kitchen operations independently when needed.
- Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills.
- Prioritize production tasks to ensure all products are completed on schedule.
- Maintain high standards of quality, cleanliness, and efficiency without direct supervision.
Qualifications
- Previous baking, pastry, kitchen, or food service experience preferred.
- Knowledge of basic baking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to follow recipes accurately and consistently.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Food Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Passion for hospitality, quality, and creating exceptional guest experiences.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and work in a warm kitchen environment.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as mixing, shaping, decorating, and packaging baked goods.
- Ability to work early morning shifts.
Schedule
- Part-time position (15–30 hours per week).
- Early morning availability required.
- Weekday availability required; occasional weekends may be necessary.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts based on production needs.
- Additional hours may be available during holidays, catering events, and seasonal promotions.

- Ingredient inventory is maintained accurately with minimal waste.
- Catering and special event orders are prepared successfully and on schedule.
