Brief Summary of Job Duties: Performs and documents a wide variety of audits, advisory services, and investigation projects, including projects of moderate to high complexity. Under the general supervision of the Audit Director, Associate/Assistant Audit Director, or designee, performs and documents audits and advisory services in accordance with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and Practice Advisories established by the Institute of Internal Auditors, the University of California Internal Audit Manual, and UCSB Audit and
Advisory Services procedures. Reports to and is supervised under the general direction of the Audit Director or Associate/Assistant Audit Director. Works closely with other Audit and Advisory Services staff in a collaborative team approach to complete projects and help ensure that the Audit and Advisory Services organization meets its goals and objectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4-5 years Auditing experience
- Experience in internal audit, external audit, compliance, risk, investigations, or advisory work
- Ability to plan, perform, and document audits from start to finish
- Ability to analyze processes, controls, policies, and risks
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to present sensitive information with diplomacy and in a clear and concise manner.
- Experience working with Optro Auditing Solutions.
- Experience using data analytics tools. Preferred experience in AI prompts.

7-8 years Higher Education Auditing experience

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
60% Audits - Entrance Conference: Entrance Conference: Under the general supervision of the Audit Director, Associate/Assistant Audit Director, or designee, schedules and conducts entrance conferences with auditee management to discuss the purpose and scope of reviews, timing, necessary staff cooperation, and other matters. Documents in writing the information that was discussed during these meetings. Preliminary Survey: Performs preliminary surveys for assigned audits to obtain background information on the areas being reviewed. This includes obtaining and documenting: financial information such as sources of funding and types of expenses; an understanding of the auditee's organization, mission, goals, objectives, systems, and policies and procedures; prior audits and compliance reviews; and completing internal control questionnaires.
Risk Assessment and Audit Program: Completes risk assessments on assigned projects after the preliminary survey phase to identify key business risks and internal controls in place to help reduce those risks. Prepares audit programs for audit fieldwork based on risk assessment results and audit budget and timeline. Fieldwork and Audit Documentation: Conducts audit fieldwork and ensures that audit methodologies, findings, and recommendations are properly supported and documented in TeamMate, and that audit workpapers and procedures have been completed and signed off. Audit Communication: Updates the Audit Director, Associate/Assistant Audit Director, or designee on the progress and status of assigned audits on a weekly basis. Ensures that auditee personnel are updated periodically on the status of audits and reviews. Leads or participates in audit exit conferences to discuss audit findings and management corrective actions with the client.
Audit Reports: Drafts audit reports for submission to the Audit Director, Associate/Assistant Audit Director, or designee, consistent with current departmental format and approach. Audit reports will typically include a cover memo and detailed audit report; the detailed reports should include the background, purpose and scope, methodology, summary opinion, and detailed audit findings and recommendations for the areas reviewed. Ensures that draft reports are complete, clearly written, and free of errors in content and grammar when turned in for review.
Project Management: Plans, manages, and controls assigned projects to ensure all work is completed within budgeted hours and timeline, and that work adheres to professional and departmental standards. Audit Follow-up: Performs follow-up reviews of outstanding management corrective actions and updates the TeamCentral system. Initiates follow-up reviews of management corrective actions for assigned audits on a timely basis, in consultation with the Director or Associate/Assistant Director, as necessary. Supervision: May lead other Audit staff on specific projects or parts of projects.
10% External Audit – Under the general supervision of the Audit Director or the Associate/Assistant Audit Director, facilitates external auditor(s) work space, meetings with campus personnel of all levels, keeps track of all documents requested and ensures timely delivery to external auditors, keeps track of UCSB's documented responses, and keeps the Audit Director or Associate/Assistant Audit Director apprised of any known external audit findings. Brings to the attention of the Audit Director or Associate/Assistant Audit Director any additional documentation that may assist UCSB personnel in their response to the external auditor(s).
10% Investigations - Under the general supervision of the Audit Director, Associate/Assistant Audit Director, or designee, the Audit Professional 3 performs investigative work regarding suspected Improper Governmental Activities and other improper acts, whether reported by whistleblowers, uncovered in the course of audits, or based upon concerns communicated by management.
10% Advisory Services - Under the general direction of the Audit Director, Associate/Assistant Audit Director, or designee, the Audit Professional 3 performs advisory services such as internal control reviews, special projects and consultations, and systems development and reengineering projects.
10% Depart. Admin/Project Ownership/Teamwork/Prof Dev - Assists the Audit Director and Associate/Assistant Audit Director in completing the annual risk assessment and audit plan, preparing management reports to UC Office of the President and campus management, and completing other work required to properly manage Audit and Advisory Services. Plans, prioritizes, manages, and performs multiple projects and tasks to ensure work is completed within expected timeframes. Communicates to the Audit Director and Associate/Assistant Audit Director in a timely manner if work assignments are not going to be completed within expected timeframes or if assistance is required to resolve audit-related issues. Proposes solutions to resolve project delays and other issues. Demonstrates an understanding of and practices teamwork and collaboration to help ensure that the Audit and Advisory Services organization meets its goals and objectives. Offers to assist other Audit and Advisory Services staff with audit and related issues and sharing of information.
Professional Development Works towards and obtains certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Work towards and maintains proficiency in Audit Command Language (ACL) and other audit technologies and approaches. Participates in internal audit and fraud-related professional organizations and training opportunities, and networks with other college and university internal audit staff. Develops and maintains an understanding of UC and UCSB policies and procedures. Monitors current developments in, and maintains a general knowledge of, auditing standards, generally accepted accounting principles, fraud prevention and detection, and OMB and other government regulations and requirements
