This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) ready to step into a leadership-focused role managing and delivering municipal infrastructure projects. Reporting to the Principal Civil Engineer, you will lead a small team and manage projects through all phases, including planning, environmental review, design coordination, bidding, and construction support.</p><p></p><p>In this role, you will:</p><ul><li><b>Lead impactful infrastructure projects</b> from concept to construction</li><li><b>Serve in a municipal owner role</b>, delivering public infrastructure projects</li><li><b>Enjoy a stable public sector role</b> with long-term career growth</li><li><b>Focus on high-quality project delivery</b> with an emphasis on long-term community value</li><li><b>Take the next step into a leadership role</b> with increasing responsibility and project complexity</li></ul><p></p><p>Key Responsibilities:</p><ul><li>Project Management: Plan, manage, and deliver Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects from concept through construction</li><li>Design Oversight & QA/QC: Review engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance throughout all project phases</li><li>Consultant Coordination: Procure and manage consultants; coordinate with regulatory and permitting agencies</li><li>Staff Supervision: Provide guidance, training, and oversight to assigned engineering staff</li><li>Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate with internal departments, external partners, and present to public forums including City Council</li><li>Technical Documentation: Prepare and review reports, plans, specifications, cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation</li></ul><p></p><p><b>Minimum Qualifications – Required</b></p><p></p><p>A combination of training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field and four years of professional Civil Engineering experience, including some experience in a lead or project management capacity.</p><p></p><p>License: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license</p><p></p><p>Certificate: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer (PE) in the State of California is required at the time of appointment</p><p></p><p><b>About the Department</b></p><p></p><p>The Engineering Design Division of Ventura’s Public Works Department manages the planning, design, and delivery of the City’s Council-approved 5-year Capital Improvement Program.
