The City of Santa Clarita is recruiting for a part-time, temporary, seasonal (PTS) Recreation Leader III in the Community Services Division. The Canyon Country Community Center (CCCC) is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills to assist with the planning and implementation of programs and to work directly with part-time seasonal staff, toddlers, and youth in our afterschool program and seasonal camps.
Under the supervision of the Community Services Coordinator, this position will work directly with all youth programs. The Youth Programs consist of a toddler program, an afterschool program, and seasonal camps. These programs provide toddlers and youth 3-11 with a variety of year-round activities, including sports, arts and crafts, presentations, water games, and more!

This position may work up to 30 hours a week Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., on various shifts and occasional weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in the planning, organization, coordination, and oversight of toddler drop-in classes for children 2-5, and afterschool and seasonal camps for youth ages 5-11, including sports, special events, homework assistance, arts and crafts, and other activities
- Assists and directs up to 25+ staff with daily programming (i.e., set-up/tear-down, preparing activities, etc.) and special events
- Assists in the training of staff on their daily job duties related to the programs
- Completes various forms, logs, and reports associated with the program
- Organizes, prioritizes, and follows up on work assignments
- Assists in set-up and clean-up of the facility, rentals, and special events
- Works with staff to effectively provide quality recreation programs
- Communicates with staff on additional programming occurring during the after-school program. (i.e., classes, Special Events, presentations, etc.)
- Effectively addresses issues and concerns with patrons as they arise
- Informs patrons and program participants of upcoming registrations, changes in programming, and special events
- Attends meetings and training sessions as needed
- Operates City equipment (i.e., bi-fold doors; dividers, scoreboards, etc.) for City programs
- Communicates with parents about minor behavioral issues, minor first aid, and programming updates
- Uses registration software to view class enrollment and export rosters
- Assists in the direction of Youth Employment Services employees in their daily work activities
- Ensures staff are completing the closing checklist assignments
- Ensures supplies are available to staff and informs Supervisor when additional supplies are needed
- Ensures staff are following safety guidelines when supervising youth. (i.e., covering ratio and the perimeter, etc.)
- Reports incidents and accidents to Supervisor, and responds to emergencies as needed
- Other duties as directed by the Community Services Coordinator or Supervisor

This is not a designated Retired Annuitant position. If you are a California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) retiree, you may be required to reinstate into CalPERS.
Part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours per fiscal year.
