Full Job Description

Interventional Cardiovascular Tech/Cath Lab Tech - Full Time - 8 Hour Shifts

Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Cardiac Cath Lab Director/Charge Nurse and the direction of the Medical Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab, performs a variety of technical procedures that requires independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative to assist with procedures. Tasks will include: assembling recordings, charts and paperwork pertaining to the procedure; operating physiological monitoring equipment; interpreting pressure recordings; monitoring ECG recording with ability to identify arrhythmias; operating equipment according to the protocol of the procedure being performed; recording medications given; assisting the physician with procedures (i.e. right and left heart cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties and pacemaker insertion/revision); demonstrating knowledge of sterile technique; assisting in the care of patients in preparation for cardiac procedures including patient/family teaching and review of chart for completeness. Assisting in monitoring patient condition pre and post procedure; reporting changes in patient's condition to physician and/or RN for follow-up. Creating CD's; ordering and maintaining departmental supplies in storeroom and central supply. He/she will be expected to work as an integral part of the IR Stress/Cardiac Cath Lab team, knowing the responsibilities of each team member. He/she will be qualified to initiate effective BLS measures and be familiar with the location and use of all emergency equipment. They will assist in maintaining and evaluating services and department quality standards and adhere to established hospital safety standards. The technologist will follow the recommendation of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Policy and Procedure Manual by Smith, J.M., M.S., RN.

Education:

High school diploma or GED preferred
Must be a graduate of an accredited approved school of radiology technology

Experience :

Within the last 12 months a minimum of 2 years experience as a RT, including 1 year of recent experience in IR and Cath lab preferred.
Must be familiar and trained for EKG recognition and moderate knowledge of cardiac hemodynamic and cardiac and body anatomy preferred.

License and/or Certifications:

Current and advanced certification in cardiovascular interventional radiology (CV) and vascular interventional radiology (VI) or cardiac interventional radiology (CI) strongly preferred.
Must be a certified (CRT) and possess an active fluoroscopy permit issued by the State of California.
Must also possess a BLS, and ACLS.
