Architectural Drafter / Project Coordinator
Santa Fe, New Mexico
We are a small, Santa Fe-based residential design and owner's representation firm looking for a detail-oriented Architectural Drafter / Project Coordinator to join our team. This role is built primarily around producing high-quality residential designs, with accompanying permit and construction document sets of plans, and with a smaller, secondary component of project management and site support for institutional and residential clients. It's a great fit for someone who enjoys the craft of drafting and design development, who wants a mix of design & drafting, construction administration, and occasional field time, and who takes pride in a clean, accurate set of drawings.
About the Position
This is a part-time, hourly role supporting the generation of residential design and construction documents as well as sporadic project management (PM) duties for a local higher-education client with a constant supply of campus upgrade/repair/replacement projects. The core of the work is producing and refining drawing sets — from schematic design through construction documents and application for building permits. Regular communication with owners, consultants, contractors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) is part of the role for both aspects of the work, along with occasional site visits as projects require. Hours vary by month.
What You'll Be Doing
1. Outline, prepare, and generate permit and construction document sets for projects in Santa Fe, NM, and surroundings, starting with schematic design through required permit/construction drawings
2. Produce accurate CAD-based program design drawings, details, and specifications for residential projects
3. Assist with design development — layouts, renderings, and presentation materials for clients
4. Coordinate drawing revisions and redlines with lead designer, clients, contractors, etc.
5. Coordinate with professional consultants as needed and ensure timely arrival of their deliverables
6. Track submittal and permitting timelines and help keep drawing sets organized and up to date
7. Resolve minor scheduling or scope issues related to drawing production
8. Serve as a secondary point of contact for contractors and consultants on drafting-related questions
9. Attend occasional site visits or inspections to verify as-built conditions and when necessary, problem-solve construction-related issues
10. (PM) Organize, schedule, and attend field meetings with owners, consultants, contractors, etc. and coordinate their activities as needed to execute projects in a timely manner with high-quality results
11. (PM) Perform construction administration tasks when necessary, such as acting as a central communications hub for all parties, reviewing and approving contractors’ proposals and pay applications, and assisting with project close-outs.
What We're Looking For
1. 3+ years of experience in architectural drafting is required
2. Demonstrated experience completing permit and construction document sets for projects is required (familiarity with local Santa Fe building permit submittal and review processes strongly preferred)
3. Proficiency in AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT and/or Revit is required. Experience generating 3D renderings is a plus
4. Strong attention to detail and comfort producing clean, accurate, well-organized drawing sets is required
5. Working knowledge of construction processes and how drawings translate to the field is required. Actual construction experience is a plus
6. Strong construction-related communication and document management skills are required: clear, calm, and professional, and able to adapt to an established digital document organization system
7. Background in architecture is preferred, residential design experience is a plus
8. Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Dropbox, and Adobe Acrobat is required
9. Must be located in or near Santa Fe and available for occasional and sometimes impromptu site visits (this role is not remote)
10. Experience working in Northern New Mexico design and/or construction environments is a plus
11. Must be comfortable working independently and managing your own workload in an efficient manner.
