Job Overview

We are an established tax and financial services firm in Santa Rosa, CA, seeking an experienced Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA to assist with trust, non-profit, and corporate tax preparation on a contract basis.

This position is ideal for a seasoned practitioner looking for a flexible, predictable workflow. The workload will primarily focus on the tax off-season (May–August and November–January), helping us maintain steady delivery schedules and support off-peak projects.

As our contract tax preparer, you will focus primarily on preparing Non-Profit (Form 990) and Trust (Form 1041) tax returns, ranging from standard/simple filings to highly complex entity structures. Additionally, you will assist with overflow work for Corporate and Partnership tax returns (1120/1120-S/1065) including both preparing returns and reviewing internally prepared returns as needed.

This role offers excellent flexibility as a mostly remote position, paired with occasional in-office check-ins at our Santa Rosa office.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review Trust, Non-Profit, Corporate and Partnership tax returns with accuracy and attention to detail (1041, 990 / 990-EZ / 990-N, 1120 / 1120-S / 1065)
Utilize our tech stack (Canopy and TaxAct) to manage client workflows, documents, and filings efficiently
Perform tax research on complex client scenarios as needed
Ensure strict adherence to State and Federal tax laws and professional ethical standards.

Experience

Active Credential: Must be a licensed Enrolled Agent (EA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of tax preparation experience, with demonstrated hands-on work with 1041, 990, and corporate returns
Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with fiduciary tax accounting and non-profit tax compliance
Direct proficiency with TaxAct professional software
Prior experience with Canopy CRM (or equivalent practice management software)
Self-Motivated: Strong organizational skills, comfortable working independently in a remote capacity, and responsive on a reasonable basis
Location: Mostly remote with periodic in-office visits to our Santa Rosa, CA location as needed
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
