Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Executive Director of Tribal Administration provides executive leadership and oversees the daily operations of Tribal government. This role works closely with the Tribal Council to implement strategic initiatives, manage government operations, support Tribal departments, and ensure programs are delivered efficiently and in compliance with Tribal laws and policies.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day operations of Tribal government and administrative departments.
Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to department directors and program managers.
Implement Tribal Council goals, policies, and strategic initiatives.
Develop organizational goals, operational plans, and annual budgets.
Monitor department performance and ensure high-quality services for Tribal Citizens.
Oversee hiring, employee development, workforce planning, and human resources initiatives in partnership with HR.
Manage organizational budgets, financial planning, and administrative approvals.
Ensure compliance with Tribal laws, policies, grant requirements, and government regulations.
Coordinate with legal counsel on contracts, resolutions, and other official documents.
Lead risk management, emergency preparedness, and business continuity planning.
Prepare reports and recommendations for the Tribal Council.
Foster a collaborative, professional, and culturally respectful work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Government, Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of senior management experience.
Experience leading teams and supervising managers or department directors.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field.
Experience working in Tribal government or with Tribal programs.
Knowledge of government budgeting, accounting, grants, and audit practices.

Desired Skills

Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making abilities.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
Experience managing budgets and multiple departments.
Ability to build positive relationships with leadership, staff, and community members.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong understanding of Native American Tribal government and cultural sensitivity is highly desirable.

Additional Requirements

Valid California driver's license and insurable driving record.
Ability to pass pre-employment background, credit, and drug screening.
Occasional travel may be required.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in an office environment with occasional travel. The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, work under deadlines, and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders.

Pay: $310,000.00 - $410,000.00 per year

Experience:

Tribal Government: 2 years (Preferred)
administering tribal government programs: 2 years (Preferred)
gov't fund accounting, general accounting, audit principles: 2 years (Preferred)
professional and program management: 10 years (Preferred)
