ABOUT THE POSITION:Parks Crew Supervisors plan, schedule, assign and supervise the work of highly skilled maintenance crews implementing comprehensive parks, trees, and landscape maintenance and volunteer programs. This position is a full, first-line supervisory level in the maintenance series. Incumbents are responsible for the field supervision of crews implementing comprehensive parks, trees, and landscape maintenance programs.

Plan, schedule, coordinate, assign and supervise the work of crews engaged in park and landscape maintenance and special projects work

Determine personnel, equipment and materials needed for work assignments
-
Ensure safe use of equipment and material and the use of safe working methods, techniques and procedures
-
Train, evaluate and discipline assigned staff
-
Interpret, explain and enforce provisions of the appropriate Memorandum of Understanding and the Personnel Rules and Regulations

Inspect work in progress and upon completion
-
Determine and recommend equipment, materials, and staffing needs for assigned maintenance projects
-
Assist in planning the annual budget
-
Assist in maintaining inventory of parts and supplies
-
Order necessary authorized materials and recommend capital purchases
-
Maintain a variety of records and prepare reports of work performance
-
Operate equipment and perform the most difficult and complex maintenance tasks

Monitor and review work performed by contractors on behalf of the City

Plan and design system modifications as required to enhance park maintenance efficiency

Receive and resolve complaints from the public regarding maintenance matters and projects and/or maintenance staff activities

Receive and act upon emergency calls
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION Physical Requirements
The work is performed indoors in a shop office environment and outdoors in field conditions occasionally involving heavy traffic, steep terrain, muddy construction sites and exposure to poison oak. Outdoor work is performed in a variety of weather conditions and involves walking on rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. Incumbents communicate with others orally, face to face and by telephone and/or two-way radio. Incumbents prepare, read, interpret and explain graphic information such as schematic drawings, layouts or other visual aids when assigning work. When using office equipment such as a computer keyboard, mouse and/or calculator, incumbents make fine, highly controlled, repetitive arm/hand movements. When operating a computer, incumbents sit for extended time period with the ability to move at will.
