Position: Sexual Assault Advocate (Bilingual in Spanish)
Reports To: Program Manager, Client Intervention
Status: This is an hourly full time, non-exempt position
Salary: The expected pay range is $25-$27 per hour, based on experience, skills, and internal equity. (This range includes a $1.00 per hour Spanish fluency differential).

Summary:
Serve survivors of human trafficking and sexual assault as a dedicated advocate with Verity, ensuring comprehensive support for individuals in need, including currently and formerly incarcerated individuals. This specialized role provides critical advocacy, accompaniment, and resource navigation adhering to protocols under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) of 2003 to ensure client safety within detention facilities. As part of a collaborative team of professional advocates, the position will manage individual cases, providing tailored crisis intervention and support to best serve each survivor’s unique circumstances.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Crisis Intervention/Accompaniment/Advocacy Services
● Respond to allegations of sexual assault within detention facilities and report in a timely manner, consistent with PREA protocols. Follow up on PREA reports to ensure clients receive applicable medical and mental health services, prioritizing client safety within the facility.
● Under the supervision of the Client Intervention Manager and in collaboration with the Lead Sexual Assault Advocate (Detentions), provide comprehensive, confidential advocacy services to justice-involved survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking
● Provide in-person, remote, and telephone crisis support for Verity clients who have experienced human trafficking (including children who have been commercially exploited) and sexual assault.
● Support survivors through investigative and criminal justice systems by providing case status information, explaining processes, and accompanying victims to law enforcement interviews and forensic/medical exams,
● Connect clients to community resources, including shelter and recovery programs, to foster stability and success upon re-entry.
● Support clients needing community resources, hygiene, and clothing items upon release through the Verity Detention Backpack Program.
● Conduct immediate client needs and safety assessments to ensure emergency and basic needs are met.
● Conduct community and human trafficking team outreach activities to raise awareness with local agencies, at-risk populations, and specific community locations
● Coordinate with local organizations, detention staff and other community partners to ensure adequate, appropriate, and seamless service delivery.
● Provide direct crisis support via Verity’s crisis line, delivering telephone, remote, and in-person crisis intervention for survivors of human trafficking and sexual assault.
● Provide specialized advocacy and support to Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) youth. Travel to and meet with youth face-to-face inside Juvenile Hall to provide accompaniment, crisis intervention, and navigation services.
Administrative Duties
● Serve as a Verity liaison at the Main Adult Detention Facility (MADF) of Sonoma County.
● Attend monthly Verity staff meetings and weekly Intervention Department meetings, providing vital program updates
● Attend case, client service-related, and partner meetings as required.
● Collect, maintain, and input accurate, confidential client data into Verity’s Salesforce database platform in a timely manner for grant compliance, consideration, and reporting.
● Utilizing the Outcomes for Human Trafficking Survivors (OHTS) instrument, evaluate and document client progress.
● Adhere strictly to all Verity personnel policies, safety protocols, and strict client confidentiality guidelines.
● Perform additional duties as required by Leadership to facilitate the overall effective operation of Verity.
Education, Competencies, and Required Skills:
● Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English is required.
● Prior experience working or volunteering in advocacy, crisis intervention, or a related social services field is required.
● State certification as a California Rape Crisis Counselor is required. If the chosen applicant is not currently certified or current on continuing education, they must successfully complete Verity’s Crisis Line Counselor training immediately upon hire.
● Must be a self-starter who thrives in a collaborative team environment and can manage a high client caseload with urgent, sensitive deadlines.
● Demonstrable commitment to cultural responsiveness and humility, with the ability to connect, establish trust, and work effectively with a highly diverse client population.
● Strong ability to interpret instructions, write professional reports, and document client interactions in a clear, concise, and objective manner.
● High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
Background Check Contingency Due to the specialized nature of this role within secure facilities, any offer of employment is strictly contingent upon the successful completion and passing of an extensive background check process. This includes a Main Adult Detention Facility background check, Juvenile Hall background check, and a Department of Justice (DOJ) fingerprint check. Qualifications

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
Verity is a hybrid office, with a minimum expectation of three days in-person, with remote flexibility options. As a direct services agency, remote flexibility is dependent on services needed.

Travel is primarily local during the business day; reliable transportation is required; ability to use personal vehicles for work-related errands. Will need to provide proof of valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
