Full Job Description

General Position Description: The First Hand / Lead Stitcher provides daily supervision of stitchers, volunteers, and crafts in the Costume Shop. This position requires advanced costume construction skills in stretch and non-stretch materials on industrial and domestic machines, and includes basic patterning and cutting. This includes maintaining, creating, and altering costumes, headpieces, shoes, and maintaining hair, and make-up looks/designs for productions. This position may include creating run tracks and assisting the department as needed at the Costume Shop Manager’s direction. This position works closely with the Costume Shop Manager, The Center for Dance Education, Ballet Masters, and Guest Artists/Designers including students, volunteers, and parents.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

Maintain the appearance and integrity of all aspects of costumes, hair, wigs, and makeup for Tulsa Ballet productions while in the theater, under the direction of the Costume Shop Manager.

Construction and alteration of costumes including supervising overhire stitchers and volunteers for all Tulsa Ballet, TBII, and CDE productions.

Stock and maintain inventory, including organization, documentation, and packing.

Assist in costume fittings for each production.

Meetings and other duties as assigned.

Show responsibilities, including:

· Assist the load-in and load-out operations.

· Assist in tracking all backstage inventory.

· Coordinate, create, and maintain costume run tracks that include quick changes, costume changes, and presets.

· Assist the performers in quick change and dressing needs before, during, and following each performance.

· Assist in cleaning, repair, and stain removal of the costumes after each performance.

· Assist with post production needs, including but not limited to prep for dry-cleaning and rental return.

Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years experience in a professional costume shop (4 to 5 years preferred); strong organization and communication skills; basic word processing and spreadsheet skills; strong costume construction skills, including but not limited to: strong stitching skills, pattern work, and other craftwork, ability to create and alter headpieces, working knowledge of domestic and industrial sewing machines, sergers, and similar equipment; ability to establish strong professional working relationships with various personalities; have patience for repetition; be self-motivated; be open and willing to collaborate with others.

Musical theatre, dance experience, and/or touring experience are a plus.
