Senior Product Development Engineer (Mechanical)
Location: Sarasota, FL
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Product Development Engineer with a strong mechanical engineering background to help develop innovative physical products from early concept through production.
This is a hands-on product development role for an engineer who enjoys taking an idea, figuring out how it should work, building and testing prototypes, solving the inevitable problems, and ultimately turning it into a manufacturable product.
You will work side-by-side with industrial designers, electrical and software engineers, prototype fabricators, suppliers, manufacturers, and clients across a wide variety of industries. Our projects move quickly and often begin with an open-ended challenge rather than a completed specification.
The ideal candidate has broad product development experience and is comfortable moving between concept development, mechanism design, CAD, prototyping, testing, DFM, supplier interaction, and production implementation.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical product development process from concept through commercialization, translating client needs and industrial design concepts into functional, manufacturable products.
- Serve as the primary engineering interface with clients, participating in discovery meetings, design reviews, technical presentations, and ongoing project communication.
- Collaborate with industrial designers to develop products that balance aesthetics, usability, manufacturability, cost, and performance.
- Design, build, and evaluate prototypes to validate concepts and optimize product performance.
- Perform engineering analyses, testing, and root cause investigations to develop robust, reliable designs.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation throughout the product development process, including QMS procedures when required.
- Work closely with clients, suppliers, contract manufacturers, and cross-functional project teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure project success.
- Support design transfer, manufacturing readiness, and product launch activities.
- Contribute to quality processes, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Execute engineering activities within Design Controls and ISO 13485 quality system requirements as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 6+ years of hands-on product development experience designing physical products, mechanisms, or equipment from concept through prototype and into production.
- Demonstrated experience solving open-ended product development challenges where the final mechanical solution was not predetermined
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, PTC Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), or equivalent 3D CAD software, including complex part and assembly modeling, advanced surfacing, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and sound mechanical design principles.
- Experience designing for manufacturing processes, including injection molding, thermoforming or vacuum forming, machining, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly.
- Familiarity with structured product development methodologies, risk assessment tools (such as FMEA), and product verification and validation.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, suppliers, manufacturers, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience developing products in regulated industries—including medical devices, aerospace, defense, or other quality-driven industries—is beneficial but not required.
- Experience with FDA Design History Files (DHF), FMEA, Design Verification & Validation (V&V), and Design Controls are a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience taking products from concept through production.
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and iterative design.
