General Description:
The purpose of this position within the organization is to perform various customer service duties such as responding to customer requests and concerns regarding water consumption and meter readings; maintain, clean, and repair water meters.
Essential Functions:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work as necessary.
Meets with customers to provide education related to water consumption and address any questions or concerns; bilingual skills preferred.
Tracks and records accurate water consumption (high/low) and unusual changes such as damages/leaks for assigned routes through monthly meter readings for billing purposes.
Installs and repairs water meters; responds to work orders for utility disconnection, reconnections, and other services.
Performs preventative maintenance such as cleaning, digging, lifting, and spraying; drives and operates light equipment as needed.
Assists in the analysis and improvement of assigned routes and other workings of the Water and Customer Service Department.
Additional Duties:
When needed, serves as back up and performs front-desk Customer Service Representative duties such as scheduling appointments, communicating in-person and via telephone with customers, and creating reports for meter readings and broken meters.

Performs semi-skilled work involving set procedures and rules, but with frequent problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.

The impact of errors is very serious - affects entire organization and the general public.
Physical Demands:
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Equipment Usage:
Handles or uses machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.
Unavoidable Hazards:
Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
Safety of Others:
Requires responsibility for the safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Requires three months of experience working in customer service related to water conservation or operations, environment/landscaping, or closely related experience.
Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel and knowledge of Automated Meter Reading (AMR) Software is preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Valid FL driver license
