Job Title: Healthy Teens Program Quality and Mentoring Coordinator
Introduction to Healthy Teens: Healthy Teens is dedicated to empowering youth to make positive, healthy decisions. Our vision is that all youth are empowered for their success and wellbeing. Serving the Manatee and Sarasota community since 2010, Healthy Teens continues to be the only nonprofit agency solely devoted to the health and well-being of local young people.
Our Teen Health Educator program, launched in 2014, utilizes a peer-education model to address risky behaviors that are on the rise including substance use, sexual health, anger management, and conflict resolution just to name a few. We recruit for this program from all walks of life within our community, but focus our services on the youth in our community most at-risk from lack of access to the information and tools needed to make informed choices and create future success.
Teen Health Educators are high school students who complete a mandatory six-session leadership program and extensive evaluations. After initial training, all health educators receive intensive mentoring and supervision for the duration of their participation, bringing in training and up to date information from representatives of many partner organizations in the community. Young Adult Leaders, typically aged 18-25, are Healthy Teens successful alumnus. While attending college or post high school education/training, they participate in this supplemental leadership and job-skills training program, and commit to Healthy Teens’ extensive event schedule.
With over a decade’s worth of experience in mentoring and educating at-risk youth in the local area, Healthy Teens has a proven record of training and developing young leaders who then serve as youth community health advocates and peer educators. Teen Health Educators are regularly honored for their efforts through County and even national-level awards and recognition.
