Job Summary
micro1 is seeking experienced Child & Online Safety Experts to support AI Training and evaluation projects focused on youth mental health, online safety, crisis intervention, and digital risk assessment. In this role, you will apply your expertise to help improve next-generation AI systems by developing safety frameworks, evaluating high-risk scenarios, and providing expert guidance on protecting vulnerable youth in digital environments.
This is an hourly-paid contract opportunity, not a traditional clinical or counseling position. Contributors will work on project-based AI training and evaluation tasks designed to improve how AI systems understand, identify, and respond to sensitive mental health and online safety situations involving children and adolescents.
No prior AI experience is required. What matters most is deep clinical or safety expertise, strong analytical judgment, and the ability to communicate complex mental health and child safety concepts clearly.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to AI training, benchmarking, and evaluation projects involving child safety, youth mental health, and online risk assessment.
- Develop taxonomies related to self-harm, suicide prevention, eating disorders, emotional dependency, and other online safety risks affecting minors.
- Establish best-practice standards for digital mental health support and clinical safety.
- Design detection frameworks to identify, evaluate, and flag potentially harmful online content involving youth mental health crises.
- Create and refine clinical response guidelines, escalation protocols, and risk evaluation frameworks for digital environments.
- Provide expert input on child online safety, exploitation risks, and CSAM-adjacent policy considerations.
- Review and improve AI-generated safety recommendations for clinical accuracy and responsible decision-making.
- Clearly communicate clinical reasoning, safety recommendations, and evaluation criteria through detailed written documentation.
- Collaborate remotely with multidisciplinary teams to improve AI safety systems and evaluation frameworks.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Licensed therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, clinician, or other qualified mental health professional with direct crisis-care experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in adolescent mental health, suicide prevention, eating disorder treatment, child safety, or related fields (8–20 years preferred for senior contributors).
- Strong expertise in clinical risk assessment, crisis intervention, and youth mental health.
- Experience working with digital mental health services, online safety initiatives, or technology-enabled support environments.
- Knowledge of child online safety, exploitation prevention, or CSAM-related policy frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, clinical, and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain sensitive topics clearly and responsibly.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree or specialized certification in psychology, psychiatry, social work, counseling, child development, or a related field.
- Experience developing or evaluating online safety policies, digital crisis response protocols, or child protection initiatives.
- Background working with government agencies, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, schools, or online safety programs.
- Familiarity with AI, digital safety technologies, or applying clinical expertise to technology evaluation projects.
- Interest in supporting the responsible development of AI systems focused on mental health and child safety.
Additional Information
This opportunity is ideal for experienced child safety and mental health professionals who want to apply their expertise to the development of next-generation AI systems. Your work will directly influence how AI models identify, evaluate, and respond to youth mental health crises, online safety risks, digital harm, and child protection scenarios with greater accuracy, responsibility, and clinical rigor.
