General Description:
The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work and operate equipment in the construction, repair, maintenance, and replacement of various city facilities and systems such as parks, and utilities such as water and sewer.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job/class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job/class as necessary.
Essential Functions:
Performs skilled maintenance work related to construction in areas such as roads/sidewalks, drainage structures, parks and utilities infrastructures.
Inspects and repairs systems such as parks, water, storm water, and sewer to ensure that all aspects of the assigned system are functioning properly.
Evaluates and responds to complaints regarding assigned system and communicates those issues to the specified supervisor.
Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, vehicles, and tools; to include dump, vacuum / jet, roll off and camera trucks, farm tractors with mowers, street sweepers and other equipment as assigned. Also performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance such as cleaning and repairing equipment, tools, and vehicles as needed.
Keeps accurate records and submits reports on initial and completed work orders.
Performs manual labor and/or repairs on construction tasks when not operating equipment.
Handles a variety of manual and power tools.
Maintains the safe and efficient operation of equipment including regular inspection of tires, oil, fuel, brakes, hydraulic lines, steering, and other specified items.
Determines the location of gas, telephones, and power lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
Maintains effective working relationships with coworkers, assigned supervisor, and the general public.
Additional Duties:
On-Call Rotation for weekends and events.
Performs related work as assigned.

Performs skilled work involving set procedures and rules, but with infrequent problems; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure.
Impact of Errors:
The impact of errors is moderate – affects those in work unit.
Physical Demands:
Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Equipment Usage:
Leads or handles machines, tools, equipment or work aids involving moderate latitude for judgment regarding attainment of a standard or in selecting appropriate items.
Unavoidable Hazards:
Involves routine and frequent exposure to extreme noise levels; animals/wildlife.
Safety of Others: (Does not include safety of subordinates).
Requires responsibility for the safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Requires six months of experience in equipment or utility operations, construction, maintenance, public works, or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
Valid Florida CDL “Class B” Driver’s License. Certification may be required for assigned department.

Possess a Level 3, FDEP Potable Distribution System Certification. (Water Department.)

Posses a Wastewater Collection System Operator C Certification. (Sewer Department.)

Possess a Stormwater Inspector Certification (Stormwater Department.)

Possess a Limited Lawn and Ornamental License.
