The Minnesota Unemployment Insurance (UI) program has an opening for a UI Supervisor. This position is responsible for the supervision of business operations and activities within the UI program. The UI Supervisor provides leadership for and management of UI Program staff whose primary responsibility is to perform the education and compliance and related policy functions for the clientele noted below.
The UI Supervisor directly oversees core operational activities throughout the UI Program. Clientele includes management and employees from all levels of the Minnesota UI Program, and all divisions of the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) as well as management and key employees from other government agencies with similar or related administration missions. The UI Supervisor also works with UI applicants and employers, and their representatives, agents and advocates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exercise supervisory authority so that applicable labor agreements and plans are equitably administered and staff will effectively perform assigned job duties to achieve the annual objective of the section.
- Manage operations to ensure that customers are well served and overall program goals are realized as a principal objective by reviewing and analyzing plan objectives and setting priorities. Working with peers to ensure coordination among work units and to plan for training and business cycles.
- Communicate all aspects of program information (analysis, policy, customer and staff feedback) to staff and peers via a variety of methods including formal and informal training, coaching and written media.
- Implement improvements based on research, assessments, and evaluation of ongoing work flow procedures to support operational objectives.
This position will be based out of the St. Cloud office.
This position is telework eligible. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.

Four (4) years of experience in the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance program
OR
Four (4) years of experience as a supervisor, team lead, lead worker, or project lead in a public sector eligibility based program with at least six (6) months of that experience in the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance program*
- Experience in UI must be within the last three (3) years
Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:
- Experience coaching and training staff sufficient to lead the work unit

Experience with Minnesota Unemployment Insurance laws, rules, departmental operations, practices, and procedures

Experience in human relations including ability to negotiate, collaborate, build, and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders

Experience with organizational skills to manage workload, competing priorities, and still meet strict deadlines

Experience conducting quality assurance activities

Experience with Call Center metrics and applications

Experience creating business processes and training materials

Experience with group facilitation

Experience understanding the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Program business model
