Position Title
Safety Manager – Plant (Rincon, GA)
Position Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and sustaining a comprehensive safety program at the Virginia Transformer manufacturing plant in Rincon, Georgia. This role provides on-site leadership, oversight, and accountability for occupational safety, regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives within a single heavy-manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on safety leader with experience in industrial or heavy manufacturing settings who can influence plant leadership, strengthen safety culture on the production floor, and ensure consistent daily execution of safety programs. This position is plant-based with no travel requirements and works closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and HR at the Rincon facility.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Safety Leadership
- Lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of plant-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards aligned with OSHA and Georgia state regulations.
- Act as the primary on-site authority for workplace safety, hazard prevention, and regulatory compliance.
- Partner with the Plant Manager, production supervisors, maintenance leaders, and HR to embed safety as a core operational value.
- Maintain visible presence on the production floor to reinforce safe behaviors and accountability.
Operational & Facility Safety Oversight
- Conduct routine safety audits, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments throughout the Rincon facility.
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors; implement corrective and preventive actions in coordination with plant leadership.
- Oversee machine guarding, lockout/tagout compliance, crane and lifting safety, electrical safety, and PPE programs.
- Support safe installation of new equipment, tooling, and process changes within the plant.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, workers’ compensation requirements, and applicable environmental and local safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation including OSHA 300 logs, incident reports, inspection records, and training documentation.
- Serve as the on-site point of contact for OSHA inspections or regulatory inquiries related to the Rincon plant.
Incident Management & Investigation
- Lead investigations for workplace injuries, near misses, and property damage incidents.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Track and report plant-level safety metrics such as TRIR, DART, lost-time incidents, and leading indicators.
- Communicate trends and improvement plans to plant leadership on a regular cadence.
Training & Safety Culture
- Develop and deliver plant safety training programs, including:
- New hire safety orientation
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Confined space awareness
- Electrical safety
- PPE usage
- Hazard communication
- Forklift and crane safety (as applicable)
- Promote behavioral-based safety initiatives and employee engagement programs.
- Encourage reporting of near misses and proactive hazard identification across all shifts.
Continuous Improvement
- Establish plant-level KPIs and visual dashboards to monitor safety performance.
- Partner with maintenance and engineering to reduce ergonomic risks and repetitive-motion injuries.
- Drive continuous improvement projects focused on reducing recordables, improving housekeeping, and strengthening safety ownership at the supervisor and operator level.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering, Industrial Management, or related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 5–7+ years of progressive safety experience in manufacturing, industrial, or heavy production environments.
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.
- Demonstrated ability to influence frontline supervisors and hourly employees.
- Experience conducting safety audits, investigations, and training programs.
Preferred
- CSP, ASP, or similar safety certification.
- Experience in electrical equipment manufacturing, fabrication, metalworking, or industrial assembly.
- Familiarity with ergonomic assessments and machine safety programs.
- Exposure to ISO or broader EHS frameworks is a plus.
