We are seeking an energetic, relationship-driven Director of Sales who is passionate about growing market share, building lasting client partnerships, and leading strategic revenue generation.
Position Summary
The Director of Sales serves as the hotel's primary sales leader and is responsible for developing and executing strategies that maximize room revenue, group business, corporate accounts, catering opportunities, and market penetration while protecting ADR and profitability.
This position partners closely with Revenue Management, the General Manager, and Operations to ensure the hotel consistently achieves budgeted revenue goals while delivering an exceptional guest experience.
Success in this role requires strong leadership, exceptional networking abilities, analytical thinking, proactive selling, and a deep understanding of the Saratoga Springs hospitality market.
Primary ResponsibilitiesRevenue Generation
- Develop and execute annual and quarterly sales plans.
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue goals.
- Prospect new corporate, group, SMERF, government, sports, association, and leisure accounts.
- Maintain an active outside sales schedule throughout the Capital Region.
- Generate new business while growing existing accounts.
- Conduct hotel tours and site inspections.
- Negotiate contracts that maximize profitability while remaining competitive.
Account Management
- Develop long-term relationships with local businesses and organizations.
- Maintain regular communication with key clients.
- Manage all sales opportunities through Marriott approved systems.
- Conduct proactive sales calls and appointments weekly.
- Participate in networking organizations, tourism groups, and community events.
Market Intelligence
Monitor:
- Local competitors
- Market trends
- STR performance
- Demand generators
- New developments
- Local events
- Group displacement analysis
Recommend pricing and business strategies alongside Revenue Management to maximize RevPAR and market share.
Revenue Strategy
Partner with Revenue Management to:
- Review forecasts
- Analyze pace reports
- Evaluate pickup trends
- Optimize group acceptance decisions
- Protect ADR
- Maximize occupancy during compression periods
- Develop need-date strategies
Sales Administration
Maintain accurate records including:
- Delphi/FDC (or applicable Marriott sales systems)
- Sales activity reports
- Weekly production reports
- Monthly action plans
- Account production analysis
- Contract administration
- Lead management
- RFP responses
Leadership
Work collaboratively with:
- General Manager
- Assistant General Manager
- Front Office
- Food & Beverage

Ensure seamless communication regarding:

Qualifications
Preferred:
- 3+ years hotel sales leadership experience
- Marriott sales experience preferred
- Knowledge of Marriott systems strongly preferred
- Experience in full-service, select-service, or lifestyle hotels
- Proven history of meeting revenue goals
- Strong negotiation skills
- Excellent presentation abilities
- Ability to analyze market data and develop sales strategies
