Summary:
The Corporate Safety Trainer works with the VP of Safety on managing the training process and needs for its employees. This position coordinates with relevant departments to develop and update training policies, programs, and procedures. The Corporate Safety Trainer continuously documents and tracks training across the Company to ensure the right people have the right training. The primary function of this position is to ensure compliance of all company operations as regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Department of Transportation (DOT), and other regulatory agencies, as well as improving safety performance training.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
New Hire Orientation:
Prepares safety onboarding paperwork- Facilitates new hire day 1 and day 2 safety training
- Reviews completed new-hire safety training documents
Safety:
Prioritize a safety culture of caring that goes beyond basic regulatory compliance- Continuously improve and present new hire training
- Create relevant and attention getting safety reminders and training for current coworkers
- Interpret and implement federal and state safety regulations to ensure compliance across the company
Safety Training:
Create new ways to engage coworkers during recurring safety training; audience could include drivers, miners, deckhands, mechanics, operations personnel, office workers and owners- Assists with annual training for Yard Workers, Mechanics and Maintenance team
- Documents and tracks other required continued education and training
- Performs the following safety training throughout the Company: OSHA 10/30, First Aid and CPR, Forklift, Aerial Lift, Confined Space, Lockout / Tagout, Fall Protection, Smith System, etc.
- Manages the Train the Trainer process
- Maintains training schedule for the Safety Department
- Updates written training program as needed
Global Responsibilities:
Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position- This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet business needs
Qualifications:
Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent required- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluently in Spanish is preferred
Experience:
Previous experience with OSHA, DOT and other regulatory agencies preferred- 3 years of safety as core responsibility preferred
Skills/Abilities:
Advanced in Microsoft Office- Strong and effective communication skills via in person, phone and email
- Strong desire and ability to improve existing processes
- High level of attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize and quickly respond to challenges under tight deadlines and work well under pressure
- Ability to collaborate and work well with people through all levels of the company
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Working Conditions:
Operation within a professional office environment- Routine usage of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets
- Regularly works outdoors in all weather and ground conditions
- Travel required to visit plants and sites
Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms- Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
