Contracted/Seasonal Tax Preparer (1099) – January through April
Location: Northern Illinois / Southern Wisconsin + Remote Flexibility
Employment Type: 1099 Contractor (Seasonal)

Our approach integrates income distribution, tax efficiency, healthcare planning, investment management, and legacy coordination. We take pride in delivering white-glove service and strategic expertise to clients transitioning into or living in retirement.

Role Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Seasonal Tax Preparer to join our team during tax season (January through April). This role is responsible for preparing and filing personal federal and state tax returns for clients primarily located in Illinois, Wisconsin, and various states across the U.S. You’ll work closely with our financial advisors and operations team to ensure a seamless and highly personalized experience for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and file accurate and compliant federal and multi-state tax returns (primarily individual, occasional trust or estate returns)
Conduct virtual or in-person client tax appointments as needed
Analyze financial documents, retirement distributions, and investments to identify tax-saving opportunities
Collaborate with internal financial advisors to align tax strategies with retirement income plans
Maintain thorough documentation and clear communication with clients and team members
Ensure timely e-filing and follow-up on any IRS or state notices during the season

Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience preparing individual tax returns
Active PTIN and knowledge of IRS e-file procedures
Proficient in tax preparation software (e.g., Drake, Lacerte, ProSeries, or similar)
Familiarity with tax implications of retirement income, RMDs, Social Security, pensions, annuities, and investment accounts
Ability to handle multi-state returns (IL, WI required; others a plus)
Strong communication and client-service skills
Enrolled Agent (EA), CPA, or AFSP designation preferred

Compensation:

Competitive per-return or hourly rate (based on experience and complexity)
1099 contractor status
Access to a collaborative, organized team with pre-scheduled client meetings and prepared documents

Schedule:

Seasonal contract: January – April
Flexible hours; combination of in-person and remote work may be available
Client meetings typically scheduled during normal business hours
