Position Overview
The General Manager (GM) leads all operations of the Hampton Inn & Suites Scottsbluff, a select-service property serving business and leisure travelers in the western Nebraska Panhandle. The GM is accountable for guest satisfaction, team performance, revenue optimization, and the financial health of the property. This role reports to ownership/management company leadership and operates as the on-site decision-maker for all hotel functions.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Guest Experience
- Direct all daily hotel operations to ensure consistent brand standards and superior guest satisfaction scores (GSS/SALT).
- Maintain Hilton brand compliance through regular quality checks, brand audits, and adherence to Hampton Inn standards and programs.
- Respond promptly to guest concerns and implement service recovery strategies that protect reputation and loyalty.
- Oversee front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and food & beverage operations.
- Ensure property cleanliness, maintenance, and curb appeal meet or exceed brand and ownership expectations.
Financial Management
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets; deliver monthly variance analysis to ownership.
- Drive revenue performance through strategic pricing, yield management, and channel optimization in partnership with revenue management tools (e.g., OnQ R&I, Hilton Revenue Management).
- Monitor and control departmental expenses to achieve target NOI and GOP margins.
- Review and approve payroll, invoices, and vendor contracts within established authorization levels.
- Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to ownership.
Sales & Revenue Generation
- Develop and execute a local sales strategy targeting corporate accounts, government/military travel, and group business in the Scottsbluff-Gering area.
- Build and maintain relationships with key local accounts including regional businesses, healthcare, agriculture, and energy sector clients.
- Collaborate with Hilton’s regional sales support and revenue management teams to maximize occupancy and ADR.
- Monitor competitive set performance (STR reports) and adjust strategy accordingly.
People & Culture
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a high-performing team committed to genuine hospitality.
- Foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture with low turnover and high engagement.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and progressive discipline as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Champion safety training and enforce OSHA and brand safety standards.
Compliance & Brand Standards
- Maintain Hilton OnQ system proficiency and ensure accurate, current property data across all distribution channels.
- Ensure compliance with all licensing, health department, liquor (if applicable), and fire/safety regulations in Nebraska.
- Oversee procurement practices and maintain relationships with approved vendors and suppliers.
- Safeguard assets through proper cash handling procedures, internal controls, and loss prevention practices.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 3–5 years of hotel management experience, with at least 2 years as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager of a branded property.
- Proven track record of achieving or exceeding GSS, revenue, and profitability targets.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain a diverse team.
- Proficiency with property management systems (PMS); experience with Hilton OnQ preferred.
- Strong financial acumen including P&L management, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be available to respond to property needs outside of standard business hours.
Preferred
- Prior experience with Hilton Hotels & Resorts brands (Hampton Inn, Home2, Homewood, etc.).
- Experience in smaller or secondary markets with active local sales responsibilities.
- Hilton General Manager Certification (HMGS or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position is on-site at the Scottsbluff property. The GM is expected to maintain a visible, hands-on presence throughout the hotel. The role requires the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the property for extended periods. Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs may be required. Schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business demand.
