Full Job Description

Job summary

The Arc of Jackson County is seeking an experienced and dependable Financial Manager to lead the organization's daily accounting and financial operations. This position is responsible for accurate financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, Medicaid and other funding-source billing, audit preparation, and effective internal controls. The successful candidate will combine strong accounting knowledge with sound judgment, confidentiality, organization, and a commitment to the mission of supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Key responsibilities

· Oversee daily accounting operations and maintain accurate manual and electronic accounting records.

· Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements, management reports, budget projections, and other reports requested by the Administrator or Board of Directors.

· Manage payroll and ensure timely, accurate payroll processing and related reconciliations.

· Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, collections, and general ledger activity.

· Complete bank and account reconciliations and promptly investigate discrepancies.

· Manage Medicaid vouchering and billing requirements for other governmental, grant, and funding sources.

· Prepare required monthly and quarterly tax filings, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.

· Assist the Administrator with annual budgeting, funding requests, financial planning, and cash-flow monitoring.

· Coordinate with the independent CPA and Administrator during the annual audit and implement approved audit recommendations.

· Develop, maintain, and monitor accounting procedures, internal controls, and inventory controls consistent with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable requirements.

· Prepare financial materials for Board meetings and attend meetings when requested.

· Supervise and support finance staff, establish clear workflows, and ensure timely completion of department responsibilities.

· Safeguard confidential employee, participant, donor, vendor, and organizational information.

· Perform other finance-related duties and special projects assigned by the Administrator.

Required qualifications

· Demonstrated experience performing full-cycle accounting, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.

· Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and internal controls.

· Proficiency with QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and standard office software.

· Ability to prepare, review, and explain financial reports accurately and clearly.

· Strong organization, analytical, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality.

· Ability to work effectively with the Administrator, Board of Directors, auditors, funding agencies, department supervisors, and finance staff.

Preferred qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field; equivalent directly related experience may be considered.

· Experience supervising accounting or finance staff.

· Experience with nonprofit accounting, Medicaid billing, governmental funding, grants, audits, or services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Schedule and work setting

This is a full-time, on-site position in Scottsboro, Alabama. Regular and dependable attendance is an essential function. Occasional attendance at Board meetings or work outside normal business hours may be required with advance notice.
