LEAD SERVICE INSTALLER

ROLE SUMMARY

At Wyman Plumbing & Mechanical, the Lead Service Installer is a specialist in technical restoration. You will lead high-stakes residential and commercial service projects, performing the "heavy surgery" required to restore failing systems. This includes slab excavations, mainline rebuilds, and advanced epoxy pipe lining. You are responsible for the technical integrity of the replacement, the efficiency of your helper crew, and the absolute satisfaction of the client. We don't just bandaid systems, we provide long term solutions to complex failures.

OBJECTIVES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Technical Restoration: Direct and perform complex service installs including jackhammering, excavation, mainline descaling, hydro-jetting, and pipe lining.
Crew Leadership: Manage and mentor Install Laborers. You are responsible for their safety, their training, and their output on the job site.
Surgical Precision: Execute slab-level replacements, trenching, and city sewer taps within existing environments. Verify all measurements, materials, and layouts before work begins. Execute to exact code and company specifications.
Adaptive Problem Solving: Plan the day’s workflow but remain ready to pivot when a "simple" repair reveals systemic failures (e.g., discovering cracked cast iron mid-job).
Operational Excellence: Follow structured workflow sequences to minimize rework and ensure predictable, on-schedule results without compromising workmanship.
Quality Control: Inspect every fitting, slope, and connection before backfilling. Zero callbacks is the standard.
Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of job progress, camera inspections, and material usage to ensure the warranty is backed by data.
Field Communication: Maintain accurate documentation of job progress, materials and variances. Communicate effectively with the Service Manager regarding progress and jobsite challenges.
Asset Management: Ensure all tools, equipment and materials are maintained and accounted for daily. Uphold strict safety standards and ensure laborers follow protocols consistently.

COMPETENCIES

Service Expertise: Deep expertise in residential and commercial drain/waste/vent systems, specifically in the replacement of failing cast iron and PVC. Maintain strict adherence to building codes and manufacturer specifications.
Heavy Operations: Proficient in the use of jackhammers, trenching equipment, camera inspection tools, and hydro-jetters in occupied residential and commercial spaces.
Situational Awareness: Ability to work around a client’s home or business, maintaining containment and cleanliness while performing invasive repairs.
Leadership: Ability to delegate effectively and maintain high morale and high standards under physically demanding conditions.
Stamina: This is high-intensity physical work. You must have the energy to lead from the front in the trenches.
Problem-Solving Mindset: Apply analytical skills to identify efficient, compliant solutions when jobsite challenges arise.
Disciplined Execution: Demonstrate high energy, careful attention to detail, and a process-improvement mindset.
Professionalism: Uphold professional appearance, conduct, and customer interactions at all times.
Precision: Use measurement tools and installation equipment with absolute accuracy.
Leadership: Demonstrate disciplined time management and the ability to lead a team under physically demanding conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

GED or High School Diploma required.
Minimum 3-5 years of plumbing install experience with a focus on service, repair, and replacement.
Proven experience leading a crew or managing complex service job sites.
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift 75lbs+ consistently.
Ability to work in confined spaces (crawl spaces/tunnels) and extreme environments (outdoor trenching).
Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, and operating heavy machinery.
