Job Title: Student Behavior Specialist Assistant (District-Wide)
Reports To: Special Education/Student Services Director
Evaluated By: Special Education/Student Services Director
Job Goal: The position supports students with behavioral, social, and emotional needs through the implementation of intervention plans and evidence-based support strategies. Services are provided district-wide across multiple schools and educational settings. Responsibilities include direct student support, staff coaching and consultation, skill-building assistance, and fostering positive student outcomes. The employee collaborates with teachers, specialists, and families to help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.

High School Diploma or equivalent as required by OAR 581-37-030, Oregon Department of Education.

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or a combination of a two-year degree or coursework and experience.

Directly implement positive behavioral interventions and supports for individual students and small groups to address emotional, social, and behavioral needs across the district.

Provide behavioral consultation and coaching to staff, grounded in the belief that all students can learn and grow, emphasizing proactive, trauma-informed practices and interventions.

Learn and implement evidence-based behavioral intervention strategies, including Skills-Based Treatment (Teaching), Collaborative Problem Solving, Restorative Practices, and other evidence-based practices identified by the district.

Ability to work effectively in environments supporting complex learning and physical disabilities and/or social, emotional, and behavioral needs, including high-intensity behavioral dysregulation, which can be both physically and emotionally fatiguing; perform the physically demanding requirements of the job.

Create, conduct, and monitor data collection systems related to students’ emotional, social, and behavioral needs.

Under the general supervision of licensed educators, deliver training and professional development related to behavior interventions and strategies.

Ability to follow specific protocols provided by a teacher, school specialist, or school nurse with students who require attention to basic feeding, personal hygiene needs, or medical procedures.

Ability to adapt to various environments while maintaining strong organizational and time management skills.

Demonstrated competence in using computers and technology systems for communication, data collection, reporting, and student support, and the ability to type accurately, operate standard office equipment such as a computer, copier, and word processor, and operate audio-visual equipment.

Perform physical requirements, which may include:
A. Moderate degree of physical stamina.
B. Frequent standing, walking, and bending.
C. Physically restraining a student as needed, following appropriate training.
D. Possible exposure to bodily fluids while assisting students with using restrooms and tending to injury and illness. -
Maintain satisfactory attendance in accordance with District policy and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Attend meetings and provide input in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).

Assist school teams in implementing and monitoring Behavior Support Plans (BSPs).

Support administration and licensed staff with the development of safety plans.
-
Assist in supporting student learning and behavior in individual and small-group settings, often without direct supervision, and implement or adjust behavior intervention strategies as directed to support IEP goals and behavioral objectives.

Provide for identified physical needs of students, such as toileting, feeding, checking for head lice, and other related needs.

Assist in monitoring classroom management in accordance with the district’s discipline procedures, which may include physical restraint, physical movement, lifting, and carrying of students under training guidelines.

Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, and as requested by the supervisor.

Immediately notify supervisors of safety concerns and maintain ongoing communication with teachers and the supervisor regarding student progress, behavior, and student needs, including specific issues or relevant information.

Participate in crisis prevention and response efforts, including training alongside licensed staff.

Participate in Systems of Support work, including universal, targeted, and intensive behavioral interventions.

Partner with interdisciplinary behavior teams to support positive student behavior in schools.

Take reasonable precautions to maintain a safe and secure learning environment while supervising students in and outside of classroom settings.

Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, IEP meetings as needed related to behavior, parent conferences, and professional development activities.

Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations related to general and special education services.

Perform clerical functions and maintain accurate files and records in accordance with district procedures.

Perform such other tasks (which may require knowledge of other job descriptions) as may seem appropriate to the Board or Administration.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
Possess and maintain a valid First Aid Card/CPR.- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Safety Care Certification.
- Possess a valid driver’s license, insurance and provide own transportation.
- Preemployment drug screening.
