Safety and Training Manager

Pacific Aero Tech | Kent, WA

This opportunity is with one of Gardner Standard's portfolio companies, Pacific Aero Tech, located in Kent, Washington.

Help Build the Future of Aerospace Maintenance

Pacific Aero Tech is an FAA-certified Part 145 Repair Station specializing in aircraft structures, transparencies, advanced repairs, and engineering-driven maintenance solutions supporting commercial and government aviation customers worldwide.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a Training & SMS Manager who can help develop the next generation of aviation professionals while strengthening the systems, processes, and culture that drive operational excellence.

This is not a desk-bound compliance role.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the production floor, developing people, solving operational challenges, and creating a culture where safety, quality, and technical excellence are part of everyday operations.

You will work directly with Production, Quality, Engineering, and executive leadership to improve workforce capability, strengthen operational performance, and ensure Pacific Aero Tech continues to build a best-in-class aviation maintenance organization.

What You'll Have the Opportunity to Do

Shape the development and training of the next generation of aviation professionals.
Build technical training programs that directly improve quality, safety, and operational performance.
Lead and strengthen Pacific Aero Tech's Safety Management System (SMS).
Partner with Production and Quality leadership to solve operational challenges and improve workforce readiness.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that impact safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Serve as a visible leader on the production floor where coaching, mentorship, and engagement matter.
Help build the systems, processes, and culture that support a growing aerospace organization.

Training programs directly improve operational performance, quality, and workforce readiness.
Safety risks are identified and mitigated before they become incidents.
Production, Quality, and Training operate as aligned business partners.
The organization maintains audit readiness while continuously improving its processes and capabilities.
Employees actively participate in and contribute to a strong safety culture.

Key Responsibilities

Workforce Development & Technical Training

Lead and oversee all training activities within the FAA Part 145 repair station.
Develop, administer, and continuously improve technical, regulatory, recurrent, and OJT training programs.
Partner with Production and Quality leadership to identify competency gaps and workforce development opportunities.
Build and maintain technician qualification pathways, skills matrices, and instructor programs.
Ensure training materials remain aligned with company procedures, regulatory requirements, equipment changes, and new capabilities.
Coordinate training schedules to support operational needs while minimizing production disruption.
Serve as a visible and engaged presence on the production floor, coaching supervisors, instructors, and technicians.
Maintain training records and documentation in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

Operational Performance Improvement

Analyze quality findings, rework trends, audit observations, and operational data to identify training opportunities.
Develop meaningful training metrics and KPIs to measure program effectiveness.
Support continuous improvement initiatives across production and support functions.
Partner with leadership to improve process adherence, workforce capability, and overall operational performance.

Safety Management System (SMS) Leadership

Lead the day-to-day administration and continuous improvement of Pacific Aero Tech's Safety Management System.
Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessments, corrective actions, and safety assurance activities.
Chair SMS review meetings and coordinate activities across departments.
Promote employee engagement and participation in safety reporting and risk management efforts.
Develop and monitor Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs).
Provide regular reporting and recommendations to senior leadership regarding SMS performance and organizational risk.

Qualifications

Required

Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Safety, Education, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Five or more years of experience within an FAA-regulated aviation environment.
Experience in a Part 145 Repair Station, airline maintenance organization, military aviation maintenance environment, or aerospace manufacturing operation strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of Safety Management Systems and aviation risk management principles.
Experience developing and administering technical training programs.
Strong understanding of aviation compliance, quality systems, and audit preparedness.
Ability to analyze operational data and implement practical solutions.
Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience

Aviation maintenance, production, quality, training, or technical operations leadership experience.
Experience developing technicians, mechanics, inspectors, or production personnel.
Familiarity with FAA Part 145 regulations and audit requirements.
Continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing, or operational excellence experience.
Experience supporting workforce development initiatives in aerospace or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
