Position Description

The Physical Sciences Department of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) invites applications for Lecturer Full-Time Temporary with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time 100% FTE basis for a nine-month academic-year, one-year, renewable appointment beginning September 16, 2026. Positions in this title are non-tenure track, non-voting, and non-promotable. Reappointments are for one year with a 3 consecutive year limit and are contingent upon instructional needs, performance, and funding.

The base salary range for this position will be $6,000 - $6,860 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

A successful candidate is expected to teach upper-level physical chemistry lecture and labs (BCHEM 401/402/404), general chemistry lectures and labs (BCHEM 143/153/163 and BCHEM 144/154/164) and may have the opportunity to teach an upper-level elective in their specialty. Candidates may also have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate students in a research setting. The position has an expectation of teaching nine courses in the three quarters of the regular academic year.

Instructional needs for the 2026-27 Academic Year include:

Autumn - BCHEM 401, BCHEM 143B, BCHEM 144B and BCHEM 144F
Winter - BCHEM 402, BCHEM 154B, BCHEM 154C and BCHEM 154F
Spring - BCHEM 404A, BCHEM 404B, BCHEM 154E, BCHEM 153 or BCHEM 493

Occasionally, unanticipated changes occur, which would require us to fill courses that are not on this list. You can find example courses from previous schedules at in the time schedule through the course catalog. Candidates are welcome to indicate interest in any of these courses as well.

The School of STEM is the largest school at UW Bothell, and we are a school committed to attracting faculty and staff who create an exceptional student experience in support of our core values of Collaboration, Opportunities, Responsibility, and Engagement. Our faculty members are dynamic educators who engage in innovative, evidence-based pedagogies. We offer twenty-three undergraduate and graduate degrees and eight minors across four Departments (Biological Sciences, Computing and Software Systems, Engineering & Mathematics, Physical Sciences). The school is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus collocated on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, and our new 80,000 square-foot STEM building, Innovation Hall – the first shared academic building between a community college and university in the country.

Qualifications

Applicants for this instructional faculty position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

PhD in chemistry or related field or foreign equivalent required by time of appointment.
