Rainier Prep is a rigorous college preparatory 5th – 8th public charter school located on the border of South Seattle and Burien, WA. Rainier Prep is achieving radically different outcomes for students who historically have experienced the most obstacles to college degrees and representation in leadership positions. Although state tests don’t represent all that our amazing students are capable of, we are proud to share that on the most recent state Smarter Balanced assessments, Black and Latinx students at Rainier Prep performed at two times the proficiency rate in both math and science compared to their district peers, while also achieving a greater percentage of high growth year over year.
POSITION SUMMARY:
At Rainier Prep, we believe students learn best when they are supported both inside and outside of the classroom. We value a whole school mindset to ensure student expectations are consistent across our campus. Operations and administrative staff are crucial to the success and sustainability of our program. The Family Engagement Manager has the responsibility to create systems and experiences that lead students, families, and community partners to have positive and engaging experiences with Rainier Prep. The goal of those experiences being lasting bonds and a transformative educational experience. This role will partner with community members to connect our Rainier Prep students and staff to our larger community with our mission at the center of all interactions. The Family Engagement Manager will work closely with the School Principal, Executive Director, and other administrative staff to maintain the appropriate enrollment for each grade. In addition to family engagement and enrollment responsibilities, this person will be an active member of our School Operations team, contributing fully to our responsibility of creating a safe learning environment that meets the needs of our full community. To best fulfill this role, Rainier Prep is seeking a candidate who is detail oriented, able to communicate effectively, and is deeply motivated by our mission to prepare and empower lifelong learners, changemakers, and advocates.
Relationship Management:
- Establish, develop, and maintain relationships with students, families, staff, social services agencies, and community partners to engender trust and deliver results
- Serve as the first point of contact, representing Rainier Prep by answering phones, greeting visitors, and handling a wide variety of family and student concerns in a professional manner
- Cultivate the Rainier Prep Parent Advisory Council and systems of outreach for our families
- Coordinate and/or provide interpretation and translation for teachers, staff, and all school events
- Create and support positive family events outside of the school day
- Cultivate relationships with community based organizations
- Monitor the success of our family engagement through survey and other data collection to annual make changes to better meet the needs of our students and families
School Culture:
- Manage the collection, and ongoing maintenance of all student records and files, using various tools such as Excel, Google, and Illuminate (our Student Information System)
- Identify and address school culture issues with teachers, students, and families achieving buy-in for solutions
- Support with transportation services, serve as a communication liaison between school staff, bus company, bus drivers, students, and families
- Connect families and students to out of school time learning (after school and summer programs)
School Operations:
- Help create and refine systems to help the school run smoothly
- Active member of day-to-day running of the school, including arrival, hallway, lunch/recess, Enrichment and dismissal duties
- Be the opener and closer one day per week for the operations team
- As a member of operations team, work closely with other staff members and fill in where needed to ensure smooth school operations
Student Recruitment:
- Manage all aspects of student recruitment and enrollment, including ongoing enrollment policies, the lottery, applications, enrollment forms, and enrollment events
- Develop practical, scalable systems for student recruitment and enrollment
- Develop and refine student recruitment programs and strategies to maximize results with minimal effort
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Observable experience leading projects or programs in a diverse community, resulting in effective outreach and meeting/exceeding goals
- Demonstrated ability to create, implement, and maintain systems for operational excellence and incorporate various perspectives when creating or improving a system and/or training other staff to use it
- Associate’s Degree
- Growth mindset and belief that all children can learn at high levels
- Proficiency in a variety of platforms and technology based systems and advanced knowledge of Excel and Google Spreadsheets
- Excellent technology, writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Experience working with diverse students and families including immigrants
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Fluent in Somali, Spanish, Vietnamese, Amharic or Arabic
- Experience with SIS systems and education platforms (Synergy, SchoolMint, etc.)
- Experience working in an office environment within a school or educational setting
SCHEDULE:
Full-time, onsite, Typical Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm with some variance to start and end times, as well as, events and weekends dependent on special events.
BENEFITS & COMPENSATION:
- The starting salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000. The full range can extend to $75,000. Annual salary is dependent on applicable experience, skill, and education as verified by resume review, a multi-step interview process, performance task, and references.
