Full Job Description

About Us: Overlake EyeCare, PS is a leading provider of comprehensive eye care, established in the area for over 40 years, and committed to delivering exceptional service to our patients. We are a growing practice looking for a dedicated and adaptable Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe who is eager to expand their skills by cross-training in patient services and office assistance. Position Overview: As an Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe, you will play a key role in assisting ophthalmologists with patient care by performing diagnostic tests, taking medical histories, and documenting clinical encounters. You may also be cross-trained as a patient service representative and office assistant, providing support to ensure smooth office operations, including scheduling, answering calls, and assisting with patient inquiries. We are looking to hire someone ~3 days per week (likely Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and certain Saturdays).

Key Responsibilities:

Ophthalmic Technician / Scribe Duties:

Assist ophthalmologists and optometrists with patient examinations, including conducting pre-examination testing (visual acuity, tonometry, refraction, visual fields, OCTs, pre-surgical measurements, etc.).
Accurately document patient medical histories, exam findings, diagnoses, and treatment plans during physician encounters.
Maintain patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system and ensure accurate and timely documentation.
Prepare patients for exams and procedures, explaining processes and answering any questions.
Assist doctors and patients with Light Adjustable Lens lock-in treatments.
Operate and maintain ophthalmic equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
Assist with minor in-office procedures as needed.
Perform Mibo Thermoflo dry eye heat treatments.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; certification in ophthalmic technology (COA, COT, or similar) preferred.
Previous experience as an ophthalmic technician, medical scribe, or in a medical office is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and terminology is a plus.
Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and medical documentation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with patients and healthcare professionals.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
Cross-training or experience in patient services and office administration is a plus.
