Full Job Description

Summary

King County's Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) provides equitable opportunities for people to be healthy, happy, and connected to community.

Learning Center Seattle (LCS) is one of our Children Youth and Young Adult Division's (CYYAD) reengagement sites in Seattle-King County. LCS supports young people ages 16-24 years to complete a secondary degree and move on to post-secondary education or advanced training. Many of the young people receiving services also need employment to meet their basic needs and explore careers that will ultimately lead to living wage employment. This position will be a key part of the LCS team and provide employment services to young people. This position will develop and oversee the broad spectrum of employment readiness programming including support to develop foundational skill sets (soft skills) and development of a career pathway. This will include leading Leadership Groups, Clubs, teaching Job Readiness workshops, and completing all the subsequent paperwork to support documentation of outcomes. This position bridges both the employment, academic, and foundational skills programming and needs a dynamic and self-motivated person that can relate to, lead, and follow youth within an alternative school setting.

This recruitment is to fill a Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position that is anticipated to be 2 years in duration. If filled by a King County employee who has passed their initial probation, the TLT will be as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA).

Job Duties

To be considered minimally qualified applicant must demonstrate a background that provides the knowledge, skills and ability to:

Develop and implement community engagement and experiential learning initiatives across diverse student pathways, and for a diverse group of students.
Design, implement and facilitate workshops on Job Readiness Training so that each participant has a portfolio. Curriculum will include at a minimum: résumé and cover letter writing, job shadowing, employer site visits, self-advocacy, and independent living skills.
Develop employer partnership based on student interest, and work with employer partners to host internships (paid by King County CYYAD) and over unsubsidized employment.
Assist other LCS team members with internships including processing payroll documents, managing timesheet submissions, securing required signatures, and maintaining or expanding internship site partnerships.
Implement Financial Literacy workshops covering budgeting and money management, credit and credit scores, banking fundamentals, debt management, and related financial skills.
Monitor, document, and report student progress, including retention, persistence, attendance, assessment results, experiential learning, and community involvement.
Maintain clear and timely communication with students and LCS staff regarding expectations, opportunities, and program requirements.
Collaborate with College Student Services to expand opportunities such as student organizations, campus employment, and involvement in on-campus programming.
Coordinate engagement and enrichment programming to foster leadership development and early career readiness.
Collaborate closely with program management, instructors, the MIS (data) team, and College partners to ensure program effectiveness and compliance with Seattle Central College and CYYAD standards.
Contribute to an inclusive, supportive learning environment and perform additional duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO HAVE:

Bachelor’s degree in education or related field or four years of experience supporting young people ages 16-24 years with education and employment.
Experience working with out-of-school students (with or without a diploma/GED)
At least two years of experience in job development or related field.
At least one year of experience teaching or facilitating workshops.
At least one year of experience teaching Job Readiness or related curriculum.
Strong ability to engage with students and support them to employment goals including ability to be able to build individual relationships with students quickly, and ability to work with a diverse group of students.
Familiarity with the King County, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, or similar, funding streams as related to Internships.
Demonstrated ability to deliver goal-oriented results in a timely manner.
Comfortable in a fast pace results orientated program and experience developing curriculum.
Ability to work with and communicate clearly and effectively with individuals of diverse cultural socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with community colleges, WorkSource, juvenile court, parents and funders.
Ability to work as a team member and have good interpersonal, facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
Proficient in the use of personal computers, with working knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Valid Driver’s License or the ability to travel within King County in a timely manner.
Ability to pass a Washington State Patrol background check.

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather. The LCS team works 100% onsite. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. The primary onsite location is Seattle Central College, Learning Center Seattle, 1701 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122.
This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval.
This position is not represented by a union.
