The Sun 'n Lake Improvement District is seeking a highly organized, analytical, and collaborative Accountant to join our Finance Team. This position serves as a key contributor to the District's financial reporting process by coordinating information across all finance functions and helping ensure accurate, timely, and transparent financial reporting.

The District Accountant works collaboratively with all finance team members and departments to ensure accurate, timely, and professional financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting knowledge, exceptional communication skills, advanced Microsoft Excel abilities, and the ability to compile, organize, analyze, and present financial information in a professional and understandable manner.

Summary:
The District Accountant is responsible for performing professional financial reporting, budgeting, and treasury-related functions for municipal operations, This position oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, performs reconciliations, general ledger activity, capital expense tracking, financial reporting, and other finance-related activities to ensure accurate financial records and compliance With governmental accounting standards, District policies, and applicable regulations.
This role serves as the central coordinator and collaborator within the Finance Department, gathering financial information from all accounting functions and compiling data into the Districes monthly financial reporting process. The District Accountant works closely with all finance team members and departments to support transparency, accountability, operational efficiency, and professional financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily accounting operations and workflow within the Accounting Department to include accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and subsidiary ledgers
- Assign, review, and verify proper general ledger coding
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and summaries
- Compile and organize financial information for the District's monthly financial reporting process
- Oversee the tracking of capital expenses, fixed assets, grants, and project expenditures
- Assist with budget preparatiom monitoring, and financial analysis
- Monitor revenues, expenditures, fund balances, and cash flaw activity
- Prepare bank reconciliations and assist with treasury and investment activities
- Assist with annual audits, year-end closing, and financial statement preparation
- Prepare spreadsheets, graphs. charts, and financial presentations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB standards, internal controls, District policies, and applicable regulations
- Provide financial analysis and support to management and departments
- Support internal and External customer inquiries professionally and effectively
- Collaborate with all finance team members to ensure accurate and efficient reporting
- Perform ather accounting and finance-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred Minimum of three (3) years of accounting or governmental finance experience preferred
- Knowledge of governmental accounting principles, budgeting, and financial reporting Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office Suite, and accounting software systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to prepare and present financial reports professionally and clearly
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with municipal or governmental accounting
- Experience with fund accounting and capital project tracking
- Experience preparing Board reports, budget presentations, or financial summaries Experience with utility billing, assessments, audits, treasury management, or public sector finance
Selection Process
Qualified candidates may be invited to participate in a second-round interview that includes a practical financial assessment designed to evaluate technical accounting and analytical skills.

Purpose of the Second Interview
The second interview phase is designed to:

- Review written and verbal communication skills
- Discuss collaboration and teamwork within the Finance Department
- Confirm organizational fit, professionalism, and attention to detail
- Ensure the candidate can effectively support monthly Board reporting, financial reporting, budgeting, and other key accounting functions with accuracy and efficiency
Note: The financial assessment is intended to reflect typical responsibilities associated with this position and may be completed during the interview process.
Work Hours:
As a part-time employee of the District, this position may be scheduled for up to 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday (occasional additional hours may be required during budget preparation, year-end closing, audits, or special projects.) This schedule is subject to change as required to meet the needs of the District.
