Senior Director of Finance

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

About Community Counseling & Mediation (CCM)

Community Counseling & Mediation (CCM) is a leading nonprofit behavioral health organization serving communities throughout Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx. Since 1982, CCM has provided comprehensive mental health, substance use treatment, supportive housing, youth development, family support, HIV/AIDS prevention, and community-based social services to more than 100,000 individuals and families annually.

With an operating budget of approximately $25 million, more than 75 programs, and a team of 325+ employees, CCM is committed to improving the health and well-being of underserved New York City communities.

Position Summary

CCM is seeking an experienced and strategic Senior Director of Finance to lead the organization's financial operations and provide executive-level financial leadership. Reporting directly to the CEO, the Senior Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, cash management, internal controls, audits, compliance, government contract reporting, payroll oversight, and procurement.

This executive leader will collaborate closely with the CEO, COO, Executive Leadership Team, and Program Directors to ensure the organization's financial stability, regulatory compliance, and long-term strategic growth.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic financial leadership to support organizational goals and growth.
Develop, monitor, and manage the organization's annual operating and program budgets.
Prepare monthly financial statements, cash flow reports, budget variance analyses, and executive financial reports.
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll oversight, and bank reconciliations.
Monitor cash flow and recommend financial strategies to executive leadership.
Supervise reimbursement management, billing, collections, and government receivables.
Ensure timely submission of financial reports required by federal, state, city, and funding agencies.
Prepare and oversee NYC Passport, CFR, Medicaid, and other government financial reporting requirements.
Coordinate annual audits and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
Maintain strong internal controls and oversee internal audit functions.
Develop and implement accounting policies, financial procedures, and procurement policies.
Evaluate and improve accounting systems and financial software to increase efficiency.
Oversee purchasing policies and financial compliance.
Manage insurance renewals and evaluate employee benefit financial plans.
Supervise, mentor, train, and evaluate finance department staff.
Collaborate with Human Resources regarding payroll, benefits, retirement plans, and related financial reporting.
Prepare weekly cash flow reports and accounts payable schedules.
Oversee preparation of annual 1099 reporting and pension analyses.
Monitor grant and contract expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements.
Participate in executive leadership meetings and provide financial recommendations.
Represent CCM at financial meetings, workshops, and professional conferences.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration (MBA), or a closely related field.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
Experience in nonprofit financial management.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
Experience managing government contracts and grants.
Knowledge of Medicaid reimbursement and regulatory reporting.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and cash management.
Experience managing annual external audits.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

Preferred

Experience with New York State Education Department (NYSED), NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), and other New York government funding agencies.
Experience with NYC Passport reporting and Cost Report (CFR) submissions.
CPA preferred.

Compensation

Salary: $150,000 – $175,000 annually
