Full Job Description

Overview

Alvarez, Thompson & Smoak, P.A. is a full-service law firm with offices located in Orlando and Tampa. The goal of Alvarez, Thompson & Smoak, P.A. is to provide competent, effective, aggressive and well-prepared representation in an efficient manner. Alvarez, Thompson & Smoak, P.A. is currently seeking highly skilled and experienced paralegals to join our Tampa office team. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide comprehensive support in handling insurance defense cases involving general liability claims. Your expertise will contribute to the successful resolution of complex litigation matters.

Responsibilities

Assist attorneys in preparing legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
Collaborate with attorneys and provide general support in all aspects of insurance defense litigation.
Prepare medical summaries and organize medical records for case evaluation.
Coordinate with healthcare providers and experts to obtain relevant medical information.
Draft and issue subpoenas for medical records and other evidentiary materials.
Manage and organize case files, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.
Review and analyze relevant statutes, regulations, and court rules.
Draft and edit correspondence, memos, and other legal documents.
Assist with exhibit preparation for trial.
Coordinate with medical experts, including scheduling consultations and coordinating expert reports.
Maintain and update case management system and document management software.
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel professionally.

Qualifications

Minimum of 3 years of experience as an insurance defense paralegal, with a focus on third-party general liability litigation.
Strong knowledge of insurance defense law and litigation procedures.
Proficiency in legal research tools, such as LexisNexis or Westlaw.
Experience with case management software and document management systems.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and ability to analyze complex information.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Familiarity with Florida civil procedure rules and court filing requirements.
Professional demeanor and ability to maintain client confidentiality.
Medical records review and create medical chronologies
Optional: Certification as a Certified Paralegal (CP) through NALA or relevant certification.
