Full Job Description

Chief Financial Officer

Primary Purpose
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides strategic leadership and oversight of all financial and
business operations for the school district. Working closely with the Superintendent and the
Board of Education, the CFO ensures fiscal responsibility, legal and regulatory compliance, and
the efficient management of public resources to support the district's mission of improving
student achievement.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and oversee the district's annual operating and capital budgets.
Direct all financial operations, including accounting, payroll, accounts payable,

purchasing, financial reporting, and cash management.

Monitor cash flow, investments, debt obligations, and the district's overall financial

position.

Serve as the Superintendent's chief financial advisor, providing strategic

recommendations on fiscal planning, budgeting, and long-term financial sustainability.

Prepare accurate and timely financial reports for the Superintendent, Board of

Education, and other stakeholders.

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and

accounting standards.

Oversee internal financial controls and develop policies and procedures that safeguard

district assets.

Coordinate and manage the annual independent financial audit and address audit

findings and recommendations.

Supervise and evaluate finance, accounting, payroll, purchasing, and business office

personnel.

Administer grants, bond funds, capital improvement financing, and other restricted

funding sources.

Collaborate with external auditors, financial institutions, state agencies, and other

governmental partners.

Support district leadership in financial decision-making, resource allocation, and

long-range strategic planning.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related

field required; master's degree preferred.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent professional certification is preferred.
Extensive knowledge of school finance, governmental accounting, budgeting, financial

reporting, and public finance.

Demonstrated experience in progressively responsible financial leadership, preferably

within a public school district or governmental organization.

Strong understanding of federal, state, and local financial regulations and audit

requirements.

Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, organizational, and strategic planning

skills.

Ability to build collaborative relationships with the Superintendent, Board of Education,

district leadership, staff, and community stakeholders.

Salary: Negotiable, based on qualifications and experience.
