Cath Lab & Risk Manager (Office-Based Lab)

Position Summary

The Cath Lab & Risk Manager is responsible for the overall operational, clinical, and regulatory oversight of the Office-Based Lab (OBL). This leadership role ensures efficient daily operations, regulatory compliance, patient safety, inventory management, physician support, and business development through relationship management with dialysis centers and referral partners. The manager serves as the primary liaison between physicians, staff, vendors, and external partners while maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

OBL Operations & Leadership

Oversee all day-to-day operations of the Office-Based Lab.
Develop and maintain the daily OBL procedure schedule to maximize physician utilization and operational efficiency.
Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure appropriate clinical coverage for all procedures.
Ensure appropriate staffing levels for vacations, call-outs, and procedure volume.
Monitor workflow and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and patient throughput.
Collaborate with physicians and the Practice Administrator to optimize scheduling and operational performance.

Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance

Serve as the organization’s Risk Manager for the OBL.
Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
Investigate patient safety events, incidents, and near misses.
Coordinate root cause analyses and corrective action plans when necessary.
Maintain compliance with CMS, AHCA, OSHA, HIPAA, AAAHC (or applicable accreditation standards), and all federal and state regulations.
Lead preparation for accreditation surveys and regulatory inspections.
Ensure policies and procedures remain current and compliant.
Monitor infection prevention practices and quality metrics.

Clinical Operations

Ensure safe, high-quality patient care throughout all procedural services.
Maintain emergency preparedness protocols and clinical competency standards.
Assist physicians with workflow improvements and implementation of new procedures.
Coordinate staff education, competency validation, and annual training requirements.

Vendor & Inventory Management

Manage all OBL inventory, supplies, and procedural equipment.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing waste and unnecessary expenses.
Review and approve invoices from device manufacturers and medical supply vendors.
Reconcile inventory usage with procedural documentation.
Build and maintain relationships with device representatives.
Negotiate pricing and collaborate with leadership regarding vendor contracts.
Monitor product utilization and recommend cost-saving opportunities.
Maintain all equipment service agreements and preventive maintenance schedules.

Contract Management

Manage contracts related to the Office-Based Lab, including:

Medical device vendors
Supply vendors
Equipment leases
Service agreements
Track contract renewals and negotiate favorable pricing and terms.
Work closely with administration to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

Business Development

Develop and maintain professional relationships with dialysis centers, nephrology practices, and referral partners.
Conduct routine outreach visits to dialysis centers.
Promote physician services and strengthen referral relationships.
Identify opportunities to increase procedural volume and expand referral networks.
Serve as the primary clinical liaison for dialysis center concerns related to access management.

Financial & Operational Oversight

Assist with budget planning and cost containment initiatives.
Monitor procedural supply costs and utilization trends.
Generate operational reports and quality metrics for leadership.
Participate in strategic planning for OBL growth and service expansion.

Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN), Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)), Cardiovascular Technologist (RCIS), or other appropriate clinical licensure preferred.
Minimum 5 years of Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, Vascular Lab, or Office-Based Lab experience.
Minimum 2 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
Experience with vascular interventions, dialysis access procedures, and peripheral arterial disease preferred.
Knowledge of CMS regulations, risk management principles, infection prevention, and accreditation standards.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with inventory management, contract negotiation, and vendor relations preferred.
