Full Job Description

Position Requirements:

Master’s Degree in Social Work or related area of study from a school accredited by the Association of Colleges and Schools; or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and two years’ experience working directly with children. Candidates with related Bachelor’s Degrees will be considered on a case-by-case basis along with commensurate experience. Must be willing to make home visits, travel on a limited basis, and work some evenings and Saturdays. (In South Carolina, applicants must maintain their qualifications as a Certified Investigator.)

Position Responsibilities:

Prepare home studies (pre-placement assessments) and home study updates with pre-adoptive couples and individuals per the guidelines described in the agency’s home study outline. This is inclusive of integrating additional home study outlines provided by external placement agencies. Adoption Workers are responsible for submitting complete, professionally written, accurate and formatted home studies to the agency in a timely manner for review and approval.
Meet the requirements of the agency’s Policies and Procedures for Home study workers.
Provide post-adoption/post-placement supervision and submit post-adoption/placement reports in a thorough, timely manner in accordance with the outline provided prior to beginning services to families. Adoption Workers should submit complete post adoption reports, correctly formatted and including all required attachments such as photographs, as well as any additional reports as specified per each case. Adoption Workers will verify that services provided have been paid for and that their supervisor is authorizing for the services to be completed prior to meeting with a family.
Submit all required documentation timely and in the designated manner. All case notes, contacts and drafts of home studies and post adoption reports must be loaded into the eAdopt system in a complete and timely manner. Signature pages for documents should be printed, signed (notarized in state for South Carolina) and mailed to the location designated by the Clinical Supervisor. This must be mailed promptly at the time of completion. Notify designated supervisors and team members when documents are loaded and ready for review and approval and when signature pages are mailed.
Offer education and counseling services to all members of each pre-adoptive family regarding adoption related issues. Continually evaluate any clinical needs, supports or concerns with your supervisor in a timely manner to better meet the best interest of each child and family.
Provide child specific training and community resources to adoptive parents when requested.
Maintain case records in accordance with state and agency standards by documentation in EAdopt.
Attend required adoption worker trainings provided and required by CAS/ABC as required to maintain credentials for employment.
Work with the Family Services Manager to meet all standards and requirements under CAS policies and procedures.
Complete annual continuing education requirements (15 hours minimum – per Hague regulations; 24 hours for workers in NC) and submit training logs and accompanying certificates on a quarterly basis. Reports should be submitted to the designated CAS/ABC staff person no later than the following date for each preceding quarter: April 15, July 15, October 15 and December 15. Non receipt of training or continual credential may result in a suspension of work until this is back in compliance.
Promote the public awareness of CAS/ABC and actively recruit new families for adoption home studies, international adoptions and other services provided by CAS/ABC to benefit their family goals. It is imperative that all Adoption Workers represent CAS/ABC in a professional manner with congruency of our team approach. All questions and concerns should be shared with the Family Services Manager to be addressed by the agency in providing exceptional services for our families and children.
Provide communication regarding any schedule changes, inclusive of vacation, emergencies and other events that would limit your ability to continue providing services to families. As the Adoption Worker assigned to a family case, it is expected that you will continue to provide the professional services during the completion of the home study, adoption and post adoption as applicable to each individual case. Communication and continuity in service to the families is essential to maximize our supports of their adoption. Additionally, please provide a minimum of two weeks’ notice in writing to your supervisor, when planning to resign from your work with CAS/ABC. Complete all active case assignments, current training log, certificates of training or current license status and return all materials to CAS/ABC.
