Pay Range for Position: $31.72 - $42.92
As a Production Lead Operator, you will help lead safe, consistent, and efficient production at the Roxboro gypsum facility. This hands-on role is ideal for a manufacturing professional who enjoys operating and troubleshooting equipment, coordinating daily production priorities, supporting team members, and driving continuous improvement. You will work closely with production employees and cross-functional partners to support quality, safety, housekeeping, and reliable plant operations in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Coordinate shift-level production activities, training plans, rotation planning, and daily team readiness.
- Operate, monitor, and understand key production equipment and plant systems to maintain steady material flow.
- Support strong standards for safety, quality, housekeeping, 5S, SOP execution, and production reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement through WCM, Lean/Six Sigma activities, AM/CIL duties, work orders, and Area Improvement Board follow-up.
- Communicate across departments to help resolve operational concerns and support efficient plant performance.
Production Leadership & Team Support
- Schedule and manage employee training and rotation plans for assigned shifts.
- Assist team members with training, objectives, and daily production line concerns.
- Lead pre-shift meetings to communicate operational, safety, and quality priorities.
- Support product changeovers and shifting production needs.
Operations, Equipment & Process Control
- Perform plant rounds to verify adherence to autonomous maintenance, housekeeping, duty sheets, operating procedures, and production reporting requirements.
- Demonstrate proficiency in key department roles, including Mixer and Bundler, and relieve positions as needed.
- Monitor area equipment and understand its impact on the production process.
- Operate equipment using a Human Machine Interface system and perform weekly start-up and shut-down procedures.
Safety, Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Perform Lockout/Tagout and other required safety procedures.
- Review, request updates to, and implement operational Standard Operating Procedures.
- Establish housekeeping and 5S standards while supporting WCM, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma activities.
- Identify equipment improvement opportunities and support issue tracking through the Area Improvement Board.
IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing or industrial experience.
- Ability to work a rotating 12.5-hour day/night shift schedule in an on-site manufacturing environment.
- Ability to travel occasionally for leadership, process, or safety training.
- 2+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment (Lead Operator, Trainer, Supervisor, or similar role).
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on a manufacturing floor.
- Ability to frequently communicate, read, write, and monitor production processes and equipment.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to occasionally climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work around manufacturing equipment and machinery in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures, dusty conditions, and other industrial manufacturing environments.
