General Purpose
The Firefighter is responsible for protecting life, property, and the environment through fire suppression, emergency medical services, rescue operations, fire prevention activities, public education, and other emergency and non-emergency services provided by the Corinth Shiloh Fire District. Firefighters work under the direction of supervisory personnel and are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism, readiness, and operational competence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to fire alarms, emergency medical calls, rescue incidents, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergency situations.
- Operate and drive fire apparatus
- Operate as part of a fire suppression and rescue team.
- Provide emergency medical care within the scope of certification and district protocols.
- Perform fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, salvage, overhaul, and other firefighting functions.
- Conduct daily inspections, testing, cleaning, and maintenance of apparatus, equipment, facilities, and grounds.
- Participate in district training programs and maintain required certifications.
- Assist with pre-incident planning, hydrant inspections, fire prevention activities, and public education programs.
- Complete reports and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain physical fitness and the ability to perform essential job functions.
- Attend meetings, drills, and continuing education programs as required.
- Represent the district professionally during all interactions with the public, neighboring agencies, and fellow employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel or as required by fire district needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Certifications
- South Carolina Firefighter 1 and 2 certification or equivalent recognized by the State of South Carolina.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License for fire apparatus (Class E) or equivalent
- Certified and qualified to drive and operate fire apparatus at time of application.
- Demonstrated experience operating fire apparatus in emergency and non-emergency conditions.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications 100, 200, 700, 800
- Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations
- Boaters USA Safety Course
- R.O.L.L. within 6 months of hire date
- Intro to Technical Rescue
- EVDT or equivalent
- Pump Operations
- Ladder Operations
- EMT-B and CPR within 12 months of hire date
- Fire Instructor within 12 months of hire date
- Fire Officer 1 within 18 months of hire date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hazardous Materials Technician certification.
- Technical rescue certifications.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications 300 and 400
- Previous fulltime firefighting experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of firefighting tactics, procedures, and safety practices.
- Ability to safely operate fire apparatus and emergency equipment.
- Ability to learn and perform emergency medical procedures.
- Ability to work effectively under stressful and hazardous conditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and follow orders from supervisors.
- Ability to interact professionally with the public.
Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Lift, carry, drag, and move heavy equipment and victims.
- Climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
- Crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces.
- Operate while wearing personal protective equipment and self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Work in extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
- Meet all district medical and physical fitness standards.
Work Environment
The work environment includes exposure to:
- Fire, smoke, heat, hazardous materials and IDLH environments
- Biohazards.
- Loud noises and stressful emergency situations above 80 dBA.
- Adverse weather conditions and extended work periods.

Pay: $47,500.00 - $50,000.00 per year
