POSITION SUMMARY
Position: Shipping Quality Coordinator
Reports to: Materials Manager
Location: Easley, SC
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Shipping Quality Coordinator thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, takes pride in delivering exceptional quality, and possesses strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. This role requires a combination of quality inspection, logistics coordination, administrative support, and forklift operation to ensure on-time, damage-free deliveries to our customers.
Essential Responsibilities
Shipping Quality & Accuracy
- Inspect outgoing shipments to verify product quality, quantity, labeling, and conformance to customer specifications.
- Photograph completed loads and shipments for documentation and quality records.
- Identify and correct shipping discrepancies before products leave the facility.
- Perform minor cosmetic touch-ups or repairs to products when appropriate.
- Report product damage, defects, or non-conformances immediately to Quality and Production.
- Initiate rework or remake requests when products do not meet quality standards.
- Verify products are packaged, secured, and prepared for safe transportation.
- Ensure customer-specific shipping requirements are met before shipment.
Logistics & Warehouse Coordination
- Collaborate with the Shipping Coordinator, Logistics Manager, yard personnel, and Production teams to prioritize daily shipments.
- Assist with load planning and staging materials for efficient loading and transportation.
- Organize and maintain shipping lanes and staging areas to promote safety and workflow efficiency.
- Track outbound shipments and maintain accurate shipping records.
- Communicate shipping delays, inventory discrepancies, and shipment issues to appropriate departments.
- Support inventory accuracy through shipment verification and material tracking.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives within the shipping and logistics department.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support business needs.
Shipping Documentation
- Prepare bills of lading, packing lists, shipping labels, and other required documentation.
- Verify shipping paperwork for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist the Logistics Manager with daily, weekly, and monthly shipping reports and performance metrics.
- Maintain organized shipping files and electronic records in accordance with company procedures.
Forklift & Material Handling
- Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move finished goods and materials throughout the facility.
- Load, unload, and transport products while following all safety procedures.
- Complete daily forklift inspections and report equipment concerns promptly.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
Required
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, warehouse operations, quality inspection, or manufacturing preferred.
- Previous experience in a structural steel, metal fabrication, or industrial manufacturing environment is highly preferred.
- Forklift certification or the ability to become certified.
- Experience preparing shipping documentation, including bills of lading and packing lists.
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems is preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple departments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is primarily based on the manufacturing floor, providing daily, hands-on support to production operations. You will work closely with production associates and team leads to help coordinate schedules, monitor inventory, and improve processes. Occasional office work is required for data entry, reporting, and communication with other departments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the production floor. You may be expected to observe or assist with light material handling, collaborate with operators on machinery or product flow, and occasionally lift or move items up to 25 lbs. The role requires strong situational awareness and the ability to work safely in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
