Job Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CNC Set Up Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, programming, and setting up CNC machines to produce precision metal components. Your expertise in CNC machining, blueprint interpretation, and machine setup will ensure high-quality production standards are met efficiently. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced machining tools and contribute to innovative manufacturing processes in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements.
Program CNC machines using G-code and M-code commands, including Fanuc controls, to ensure accurate machining operations.
Set up CNC lathes and milling machines by installing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces with precision measurement instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines.
Perform manual machining tasks when necessary using hand tools, grinders, lathes, and other machining tools to prepare parts for CNC processing or finish components.
Conduct machine setup procedures including tool calibration, zeroing axes, and verifying machine parameters for optimal operation.
Monitor ongoing machining processes for quality control; perform CNC quality inspections using measurement instruments to ensure parts meet GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) standards.
Troubleshoot machine issues promptly and make adjustments to maintain production flow; perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment.
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize tooling setups and improve lean manufacturing practices for efficiency gains.
Maintain detailed documentation of setups, adjustments, and inspection results for quality assurance purposes.

Qualifications

Proven experience operating and setting up CNC machines such as lathes and milling centers, preferably with Fanuc controls.
Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages including G-code and M-code; experience with CAM programming software is a plus.
Proficiency in reading mechanical blueprints and interpreting mechanical blueprints accurately for machining operations.
Mechanical knowledge of machining tools, grinders, hand tools, power tools, and tooling management.
Familiarity with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines for precision measurement in machining.
Ability to perform manual machining tasks on equipment like lathes or grinders when necessary.
Basic math skills for calculating dimensions, tolerances, feeds, speeds, and other machining parameters.
Knowledge of GD&T principles for quality control inspections of machined parts.
Mechanical aptitude combined with strong problem-solving skills; ability to troubleshoot machine issues effectively.
Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy materials or equipment safely; forklift certification is a plus.
Commitment to safety standards and adherence to manufacturing best practices in a fast-paced environment.
