Full Job Description

A leading pharmaceutical manufacturer is seeking a Principal Scientist – Technical Services to serve as a senior technical leader supporting solid oral dosage products throughout the product lifecycle. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced scientist who enjoys remaining hands-on with manufacturing operations while leading complex technical initiatives, troubleshooting product issues, and driving continuous process improvements.

The successful candidate will play a critical role supporting commercial manufacturing, technology transfer, process development, validation, and product lifecycle management for multiple marketed products. This position will collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Validation, and R&D teams while helping integrate new products into the organization.

This is a highly visible role for someone who wants to influence commercial pharmaceutical operations without moving into a traditional people management position.

Key Responsibilities

Serve as a senior technical resource for solid oral dosage pharmaceutical products
Support process development, scale-up, technology transfer, and commercial manufacturing activities
Lead investigations and troubleshoot complex manufacturing, process, and product-related issues
Design, execute, and interpret technical studies to optimize manufacturing performance
Identify critical process parameters and recommend process improvements
Author and review GMP documentation including protocols, reports, investigations, technical assessments, validation documents, and batch records
Support process validation and continuous improvement initiatives
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, Regulatory Affairs, and R&D
Manage multiple products and projects simultaneously while balancing competing priorities
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior scientists, associates, and technicians
Present technical findings and recommendations to leadership and business stakeholders
Provide occasional off-hours manufacturing support when needed

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, Pharmaceutics, or a related scientific discipline
10+ years of pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
Extensive experience supporting solid oral dosage products
Strong background in process development, scale-up, commercial manufacturing support, and technology transfer
Experience conducting root-cause investigations and implementing technical solutions
Knowledge of statistical analysis and experimental design
Strong technical writing skills
Experience authoring and reviewing GMP documentation
Working knowledge of FDA, ICH, GMP, DEA, OSHA, and other relevant pharmaceutical regulations
Ability to work independently and drive technical projects from concept to completion
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Ability to work on-site in Seymour, Indiana
Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline
15+ years of pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
Experience supporting multiple commercial products simultaneously
Experience transitioning products from R&D into commercial manufacturing
Experience supporting acquisitions, site transfers, or product integrations
Regulatory submission support experience, including eCTD documentation
Expertise with alternate API and excipient sourcing projects
Experience with MasterControl, SAP, or similar pharmaceutical systems
Proven track record mentoring junior scientists and technical teams
Strong project management and stakeholder engagement experience
