Full Stack Developer (Laravel / React)
Nomad Temporary Housing — Remote (US-Based) | Full-Time
LinkedIn: Please ensure your LinkedIn profile is up to date before applying. We review LinkedIn profiles as part of our initial screening process.
Cover Letter Required: A cover letter is required with your application. Please address three things: (1) describe a specific technical problem you solved in your last role and what your personal contribution was, (2) tell us something about your background that isn’t on your resume, and (3) you inherit a Laravel codebase with no documentation and a bug you can’t reproduce locally — walk us through your first 30 minutes.
Resume: Please limit your resume to your last 2 most relevant roles. We’re focused on the work you’ve owned recently, not a full career history.
About Nomad
Nomad Temporary Housing connects people in transition with furnished, flexible-term housing across the globe. As an independent operator with a worldwide network of quality providers and properties, we offer unbiased, needs-driven accommodations — from garden-style apartments in Los Angeles to high-rise units in New York and Vancouver, to traditional townhouses in London. Our small engineering team builds and maintains the platforms, APIs, and infrastructure that power this global operation.
What You’ll Work On
You’ll be a core contributor on the platform that matches thousands of relocating employees with furnished housing worldwide — building and maintaining Laravel APIs, developing React interfaces used by internal teams and customers, and collaborating closely with the lead engineer on new features and ongoing improvements.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional experience with Laravel (MVC, Eloquent, Queues/Jobs, Middleware), API development and integration experience (both internal development and external API integration), and strong knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming
- Strong React and Next.js skills — comfortable with hooks, component architecture, state management, and server-side rendering
- Experience with React Hook Form and Zod for form handling and schema validation
- Solid understanding of relational databases and writing efficient queries
- Experience working in a CI/CD environment
- Must be US-based and authorized to work in the United States
- Comfortable working remotely
- Experience integrating Google Maps and Apple Maps APIs (location search, markers, geolocation, routing)
- Solid grasp of UI/UX design principles — able to build interfaces that are intuitive, consistent, and visually polished without needing a dedicated designer
- Strong communication skills — able to clearly articulate technical decisions and collaborate effectively with a small team
- Problem-solving mindset — able to diagnose issues independently and propose solutions without needing to be hand-held
- Attention to detail — catches edge cases, inconsistencies in UI, and data integrity issues before they become problems
- Self-motivated — comfortable managing their own workload and priorities in a remote environment
- Adaptability — willing to context-switch between backend and frontend as project needs shift
- Ownership mentality — takes responsibility for features end-to-end, not just the code they touched
