Full Job Description

Cardiac Sonographer: This 0.0 FTE/Per-Diem-Relief position is scheduled to work a 10-HR day shift as needed and is UFCW represented.

Compensation: Non-Exempt, $45.80/HR — $71.82/HR. Placement within this range is based on years of applicable experience.

Job Summary:

- Produces images of heart muscle and functioning by setting-up ultrasound equipment; attaching electrodes to chest and equipment; operating and adjusting equipment; recording cardiac data and measurements; protecting and helping patients and communicating with the cardiologist when needed.

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

- Prepares for examinations by checking equipment, inventorying and restocking supplies; reviewing patient schedules; reading physician orders for specific examinations; setting-up recording equipment; entering patient information into the system.
- Prepares patients by positioning the patient; spreading gels; attaching electrodes to chest and equipment; adjusting equipment controls; verifying wave signals.
- Obtains quality images by positioning and repositioning the transducer; monitoring the display screen; listening to signals; adjusting equipment for beam strength and focus; detecting artifacts that mimic abnormalities; recording images.
- Records examination information by printing graphics and data; calculating measurements of heart wall, chamber size, and blood flow direction and velocity; comparing measurements to norms.
- Protects patients by adhering to safety policies and protocols.
- Have an understanding of and follow the HIPPAA standards.
- Starts IV’s as needed for Contrast injections.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Accomplishes organizational goals by accepting ownership to accomplish new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

- AA degree from an associated Ultra sonographer or Echocardiography program.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification, or within 180 days of hire.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.

Must obtain certification within 6 months of employment in this position by 1 or both of the following governing bodies:
- Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) and or an RDCS license from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
