JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY – Solar Construction Manager
The ideal candidate will own the safe, on-schedule, and on-budget execution of solar and BESS construction projects in the field — including capital improvement, repowering, module and inverter replacement, tracker retrofit, substation, and balance-of-plant scopes across our fleet. This role is the senior MBS representative on site, directing self-perform crews and subcontractors, holding the schedule and budget, enforcing safety and quality standards, and delivering a clean turnover to the client and to our O&M organization.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Solar Construction Manager
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the on-site leader for assigned projects from mobilization through substantial completion, punch list closure, and final closeout.
- Direct and coordinate self-perform crews and subcontractors across civil, racking and tracker, module installation, DC electrical, MV collection, substation, and site restoration scopes.
- Build and maintain the project schedule; issue three-week lookaheads and track daily production against install rates, manpower, and equipment plans.
- Manage project cost: labor and equipment tracking, material receiving and laydown control, change order identification and pricing, and accurate cost coding.
- Own the RFI, submittal, and drawing revision process; identify design conflicts early and drive them to resolution with engineering and the client.
- Adhere to and enforce all safety protocols to maintain a safe work environment, including site-specific safety plans, daily toolbox talks, JHAs, LOTO, and energized work permitting.
- Execute the project quality plan: inspection and test plans, torque and tracker alignment verification, DC string testing, termination and terminations QA, MV cable testing, and as-built documentation.
- Support pre-energization checkouts, commissioning, capacity testing, and utility and AHJ inspections.
- Maintain environmental compliance including SWPPP, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater inspection records.
- Serve as the primary daily point of contact for the client, owner's representative, inspectors, and utility personnel on site.
- Produce daily reports, progress photos, manpower counts, and weekly client-facing project updates.
- Deliver a complete turnover package to the O&M organization: as-builts, warranties, spare parts, test records, and open punch items.
- Mentor and develop foremen, technicians, and junior field staff.
- Performs other technical and administrative duties associated with constructing and commissioning a power facility.
Qualifications: Knowledge/Skills
- Proven experience managing utility-scale PV, DG, and/or BESS construction, including racking and tracker systems, module installation, combiner boxes, PV wiring harnesses, inverters, 35kV underground collection, and high voltage substations.
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, and electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
- Working knowledge of NEC, OSHA 1926, NFPA 70E, and applicable IEEE and utility interconnection standards.
- Demonstrated command of construction scheduling and reporting tools (Primavera P6, MS Project, Procore, Bluebeam, or equivalent).
- Experience negotiating and administering subcontracts, change orders, and purchase orders.
- Understanding of general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards as well as help the company improve upon the standards in place.

Education/Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of construction management or field supervision experience, with at least three (3) years in utility-scale PV solar, BESS, or comparable heavy electrical construction.
- Demonstrated history of delivering projects on schedule and on budget as the responsible site leader.
- Experience managing subcontractors and multi-craft crews in a self-perform or hybrid delivery model.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent field experience or journeyman certification will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- OSHA 30, CPR/First Aid/AED, and NFPA 70E training required or to be obtained within the first 90 days.
- Additional certifications (NABCEP, PMP, EE98J, or utility-specific switching qualifications) preferred.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record required.
Working Conditions
- Normal plant, construction site, and/or office environment, including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas.
- Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment.
- Requires use of personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
- May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals.
- Occasionally requires lifting up to 70 pounds, to perform duties and responsibilities.
- Work overtime and non-standard working hours – (nights) as required.
- Extensive travel required. Expect extended stays at project sites for the duration of assigned scopes.
- Work Remotely – No. Report to the site daily.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
