Full Job Description

The Clinical Director of Mental Health Services is responsible for the oversight, supervision, and support of direct care staff providing behavioral health and rehabilitation services. This position ensures that services are delivered in accordance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and evidence-based practices. The supervisor promotes quality client care, staff development, and compliance with all applicable state and accreditation standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Staff Supervision and Development

Maintain primary responsibility for the supervision of all direct care staff.
Provide ongoing guidance, coaching, and support to direct care personnel through individual and group supervision.
Conduct regular individual and group supervision sessions.
Monitor staff performance and provide constructive feedback to promote professional growth.
Participate in hiring, onboarding, training, and evaluation of direct care staff.
Ensure staff maintain required certifications, credentials, and mandatory training requirements.
Assist in developing corrective action plans and performance improvement strategies when necessary.

Program Operations and Quality Assurance

Provide oversight of clinical program development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation to ensure services are delivered in accordance with regulatory requirements, evidence-based practices, organizational policies, and client treatment needs.
Monitor service delivery to ensure quality, consistency, and person-centered care.
Review documentation completed by direct care staff for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Assist with audits, inspections, accreditation reviews, and regulatory surveys.

Client Care Oversight

Support direct care staff in addressing client needs, behavioral concerns, and crisis situations.
Ensure clients receive services that promote recovery, rehabilitation, and overall wellness.
Collaborate with clinical, medical, and administrative staff to coordinate care and ensure continuity of services.
Monitor the implementation of treatment plans and recovery-oriented interventions.
Provide on-call support for direct care staff.

Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure compliance with all applicable state, federal, and organizational regulations and standards.
Maintain confidentiality and protect client information in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.
Report incidents, safety concerns, and compliance issues according to established procedures.
Promote a safe and therapeutic environment for clients, staff, and visitors.

Administrative Responsibilities

Maintain supervision records and staff development documentation.
Participate in staff meetings, treatment team meetings, and leadership meetings as required.
Assist with scheduling and coverage planning to ensure adequate staffing levels.
Prepare reports and other documentation as requested by leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications:

Education and Experience

Master's degree in a mental health, rehabilitation, or human services field; OR
Possess full, unrestricted professional licensure in the State of New Jersey in a relevant clinical discipline, including but not limited to:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor (LRC)
Licensed Psychologist
Possess a relevant supervisory credential, such as the Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential, or an equivalent supervisory credential recognized by the applicable licensing, certification, or accrediting body.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior supervisory experience in a behavioral health, mental health, substance use, or rehabilitation setting.
Knowledge of state licensing regulations and Joint Commission accreditation standards.
Experience with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of behavioral health and recovery-oriented services.
Ability to provide effective staff supervision and performance management.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge of crisis intervention, client rights, and ethical standards of care.

Pay: $77,802.83 - $93,698.03 per year
