Manager of Surgical Services (RN)
Full-Time | Day Shift | Hospital-Based Leadership | Central Coast, California
We're partnering with a hospital-based surgical services program on California's Central Coast to hire a Manager of Surgical Services (RN). This is a day-shift leadership role for an experienced perioperative RN ready to own people, process, and quality across a surgical services department — without leaving hands-on clinical involvement behind.
Schedule & Compensation
- Day shift, 8-hour shifts, full-time exempt
- On-site hospital setting
- $63.43–$84.00/hour, based on experience
The Role
This position blends perioperative clinical expertise with department leadership. You'll oversee daily OR and perioperative nursing operations, manage staffing and workflow, lead orientation and competency development, conduct performance evaluations and coaching, support regulatory readiness and quality initiatives, and participate in budgeting and equipment planning. You'll work closely with nursing leadership and hospital administration with real input into how the department runs.
Who Fits This Role
This isn't a narrow subspecialty leadership track — it's a generalist OR management role suited to someone who's circulated across general surgery and understands the full rhythm of a perioperative department, not just one service line. The best fit has already proven they can run a team, not just be part of one: someone who's moved from circulating nurse into charge or supervisory responsibility and is ready for full departmental ownership.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) required
- Active California RN license
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA)
- 5+ years of RN experience
- Minimum 2 years as a circulating RN in surgery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred (Not Required)
- CNOR certification
- PACU experience
- Prior supervisory or management experience in perioperative services
- Familiarity with perioperative regulatory and accreditation standards
Practice Environment
Hospital-based surgical services department with an active, hands-on perioperative environment. You'll have direct influence over workflows, standards, and staff development — the kind of latitude that's harder to come by in larger, more layered systems.
Physical Requirements
Combination of standing, walking, and sitting throughout the shift; ability to lift and carry moderate weight; standard clinical environment exposures.
Why This Role
- Day-shift leadership with predictable hours — no nights, no rotating call schedule eating into your life
- Shape a department's standards and culture, not just enforce someone else's
- Central Coast location: smaller hospital environment where judgment is trusted and decisions move faster, with easy access to coastal communities and outdoor recreation
- Compensation that reflects both clinical depth and leadership scope
