*Independent Contractor: Early Childhood Classroom Observer Position*

AppleTree Institute for Education Innovation is seeking temporarily contracted Early Childhood Classroom Observers for the Baseline wave of its assessment program. AppleTree has established a reputation for supporting early childhood education across more than 20 states through research-driven programs and tools. Local and national organizations and agencies, as well as families and community members, have recognized the positive impact of our work on children’s development and later academic achievement.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Independent contractors, Early Childhood Classroom Observers are needed for the Baseline observation window, commencing September 21st and ending November 9th, 2026. Observers will be responsible for conducting classroom observations geared toward improving classroom quality. Observations occur in the morning (approximately 7:45 am-12:30 pm).

**Observers will receive training on the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS PreK-3) Second Edition administration. Please be aware that CLASS PreK-3 training is NON-PAID. The training consists of two days of virtual instruction on the CLASS PreK-3 tool and one day of PAID logistics training.

CLASS PreK-3 Training - Day 1 (Non-Paid)
Wednesday, September 9th (8:30 am - 3:30 pm)
CLASS PreK-3 Training - Day 2 (Non-Paid)
Thursday, September 10th (8:30 am - 3:30 pm)
Logistics Training - Day 1 (virtual; PAID)
Tuesday, September 15th (9:00 am - 1:00 pm)
Logistics Training - Day 2 (virtual; PAID)
Wednesday, September 16th (9:00 am - 1:00 pm)

*Please note, attending all days of training is mandatory. Failure to attend all days of training will result in dismissal from the project.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must possess at least a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Education, Psychology, the Social Sciences, or a related field. Ideally, candidates will also have a minimum of two years of experience working with children or in an educational or psychometric setting. Experience in assessment or early childhood settings is required.

Additional requirements:

Reliable transportation (our sites are all accessible by Metro and Metrobus)
Punctuality and excellent communication skills
Ability to provide an unofficial or official transcript
All candidates are subject to a criminal background check
Full COVID-19 vaccination and proof of vaccination are required for all contractors

COMPENSATION:

Observations are compensated at $250 per classroom observation (max. $500/day). Logistics Training is compensated at $30 per hour. Only Observers who complete all mandatory training and at least one scheduled observation day will be paid. Ideally, Observers should be available all five days each week of the observation window; however, exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis. Observers will only be compensated for completed observations during the observation window (observers are not paid for days they are not asked to observe). Please note that Observers are not guaranteed daily observations during the observation window.
