Full Job Description

Certification Required: Registered Nurse License, CPR certification

Roles and Responsibilities:

Patient Recruitment & Clinical Trials:

Recruit and screen patients for clinical trials and research protocols.
Determine patient eligibility for research studies.
Educate patients and families about clinical studies, treatments, and possible side effects.
Follow up with enrolled patients throughout the study.
Coordinate patient recruitment and retention activities.
Communicate with referring physicians and potential study participants.

Patient Care & Clinical Assessments:

Perform physical assessments and obtain medical histories.
Review medical records, laboratory results, and patient information.
Monitor patient health and ensure patient safety during studies.
Conduct patient and family interviews.
Develop and communicate patient care plans with the healthcare team.

Clinical Trial Coordination:

Coordinate protocol visits, diagnostic tests, and medical consultations.
Schedule patient appointments and arrange travel when required.
Administer study medications and perform protocol-related procedures.
Monitor study progress and ensure protocol compliance.

Regulatory & Compliance:

Obtain and document informed consent.
Ensure compliance with IRB, GCP, and research regulations.
Report adverse events, protocol deviations, and safety concerns.
Prepare and maintain regulatory documents and study records.

Data Management:

Enter and maintain accurate research data in study databases.
Manage patient files and research documentation.
Perform quality control and ensure data accuracy.
Support data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Clinical Research Support:

Interpret clinical data and identify significant findings.
Monitor patient recruitment, retention, and study progress.
Assist with protocol implementation and study administration.
Participate in protocol development and amendments.
Review medical literature to support research activities.

Patient Education & Communication:

Counsel patients and families regarding disease processes and treatment plans.
Respond to patient inquiries regarding medications and study participation.
Explain laboratory results and study expectations.
Serve as a liaison between patients, physicians, and research staff.

Collaboration & Training:

Work closely with physicians, investigators, and multidisciplinary teams.
Participate in patient care conferences and research meetings.
Train and mentor new nurses and research staff.
Support continuous improvement of research and clinical processes.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Maintain referral lists and patient schedules.
Prepare reports and required study documentation.
Coordinate annual IRB reviews and regulatory submissions.
Review and summarize relevant medical literature.
Attend professional meetings, seminars, and clinical rounds.

Deliverables:

Work products and documents related to recruitment and retention of patients into specific clinical protocols; ensure protocol compliance and database management; educate patients regarding the nature of the disease process and possible therapeutic strategies and protocol objectives-Ad-Hoc
Work products and documents related to collecting relevant clinical data such as laboratory test results and social background; interview patients to obtain history; maintain computerized patient files and databases; interpret data; identify results that merit prompt clinical action; maintain required documentation and files for research protocols-Ad-Hoc
Work products and documents related to performing physical assessments; analyze trends in patient conditions; suggest possible alterations in treatment regimens; perform physical assessments of patients; analyze trends in patient conditions; suggest possible alterations in treatment regimens according to research protocols-Ad-Hoc Work products and documents related to examining and monitoring patients during protocol studies; ensure the collection of a complete clinical database on each patient; participate in scheduled clinical update lectures, meetings and grand rounds; respond to telephone inquiries from protocol patients-Ad-Hoc
Work products and documents related to providing counseling and teaching for patients and their families as appropriate; determine appropriate diagnostic testing; gather data for yearly IRB reviews; coordinate the submission process-Ad-Hoc
Work with staff on prescheduling the appropriate evaluations, arranging patient travel providing the patient with confirmation of the appointment time and a list of the scheduled diagnostic testing; and scheduling appropriate medical consultations as necessary-Ad-Hoc
Work products and documents related to participating in the patient care conference; assemble diagnostic studies; attend professional meetings and seminars; review and summarize relevant literature-Ad-Hoc
