Job Description
The EVS General Manager provides onsite leadership and operational oversight for environmental services (EVS) across two key client facilities: the Sitka Pioneer Home (senior living) and the Sitka School District (K-12). Reporting to the Director of Operations, this role is responsible for coordinating and managing daily janitorial and housekeeping services to ensure clean, safe, and compliant environments that meet contractual, regulatory, and client expectations.
This position serves as the primary onsite leader for EVS staff, driving workforce performance, operational efficiency, and service quality across both locations. The EVS Operations Manager oversees staffing, scheduling, and service delivery while proactively addressing operational needs, resolving issues, and maintaining strong client relationships. Success in this role requires the ability to balance hands-on supervision with strategic coordination in a dynamic, multi-site environment.
The successfully hired candidate must be willing to relocate to Sitka, AK - if residing outside the State of Alaska.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a working lead, coordinating activities of janitors/housekeepers engaged in cleaning and/or maintaining buildings and facilities.
- Use and operate standard commercial cleaning equipment. (e.g., scrubbers, shampooers, buffers/polishers, extractors, wet/dry vacs, steam cleaners, and others)
- Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance and evaluations; address complaints and resolve problems; manage and approve time sheets.
- Assist in ensuring a safe working environment throughout the facility for all employees by complying with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Assist in monitoring employee productivity and provide suggestions for increased service or productivity.
- Responsible for the coordination of routine responsibilities of employees; responsibility for specific work or functional activities as directed by on-site management.
- Responsible for orientation and training of employees.
- Works with customers to ensure satisfaction in such areas as quality, service, and problem resolution. Develops and directs the maintenance of such typically required business reports, administrative matters, or materials as budgets, budget expenditures, operational reports, cost analysis, operational documentation, etc.
- Tracks financial data, reports, forecasts, and expenditures to achieve optimum efficiency and economy of operations.
- Support an active safety program and participate in regular safety meetings and trainings.
- Apply all applicable OSHA requirements to all assigned work.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Adapts procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to meet the requirements of the position.
- This position is responsible for the supervision of staff.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success may also be assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three (3) years of general manager experience in a hospitality, health care, K-12, or senior living environment.
- Minimum of two (2) years of EVS management directly supervising a team of at least 10 employees.
- Demonstrated Working knowledge of standard commercial cleaning equipment and general cleaning processes.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy.
- Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office, Outlook email, and common software applications.
- Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read, and write English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Multi-site janitorial/housekeeping operations management experience.
- Housekeeping/janitorial experience in senior living and/or K-12 school district environments.

Physical requirements: Employee is required to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently to constantly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
